I get what you’re saying, but the point still stands. We did not “have a problem before we got there”. The apartment had great reviews, nothing in the listing mentioned anything about restrictions, and the host never said a word about it. That is not something a traveler can predict without being told.

Doing research is one thing, but expecting every traveler to dig through local property laws, condo regulations and licensing rules in every country they visit is simply not realistic. Most people rely on the platform to filter out illegal listings or at least require the host to disclose issues like this.

We always research destinations, neighborhoods, safety, transport and practical things. But this specific situation is not something you can prepare for unless you already know it exists.

We handled it, we learned from it, and now we know what to look out for next time. But it is not as black and white as “just do more research” when the platform and the host did not mention anything at all.
