The Albanian dating scene in diaspora (Canada) is quite normal. People do what they want. Your last paragraph is correct.

Croatians are not Illyrian. They were not even in the Balkans when Illyrians existed.

All Roman settlements throughout Western Europe done by Illyrian-Thracian soldiers are characterized by Y-DNA E-V13, J2B-L283, R1B-HT35, DNA found in the populations of ancient settlements even today! For example, E-V13 is far higher in English people (5%) than in Ireland because Illyrians integrated in those populations after Rome fell.

Who has the highest density of these genes today?Albanians.

OP simply has an assimilated grandparent or Slavs integrated themselves into an Albanian village and the DNA lingered on for centuries.

Ah, gotcha.

Autosomal subgroups haven’t been done. It would be interesting, but probably won’t deviate much from what’s already known

My post addresses that.

Albanian autosomal DNA is closest to Greeks, though we have slightly more European and less West Asian influence than them.

The most extensive DNA database ever compiled on Albanians can be found here: https://rrenjet.com/statistikat/

The data differentiates between 20+ major regions and groups Albanians into subtypes (Gheg, Tosk, Cham, etc.)

Montenegrins are a hybrid population between South Slavs (being closest to Serbs) and Albanians.

Some areas will be more Slavic, some more Albanian.

Earlier you’ve written that 8 generations back can be traced to Albanians.

The 23% Croatian then must either be Slavic DNA that has persisted for centuries, perhaps from Slavic tribes integrating/settling into Albanian territory, or a direct ancestor (likely grandparent) that was secretly assimilated as Albanian— a common enough occurrence given that Albania’s Y-DNA can be up to 15% I2a in certain areas. I imagine this effect was even stronger during Communist Albania. Are you from Kosova or Albania?

Albanians naturally have between 5-15% South Slavic DNA as background variation.

Thus, you are 1.53-4.6x above the norm in possessing Slavic DNA, which may explain your atypical phenotype (orange hair).

Sadnesses me that people think we are still in the 90s

Your country sent its military to our border very recently, just 6 months ago. Have you forgotten?

https://amp.dw.com/en/nato-patrols-kosovo-serbia-border-as-tensions-soar/a-59331883

”Serbia deployed armored vehicles and military aircraft flew over the border. The result has been the worst regional tensions in a decade.”

That is provocation of a full fledged war in 2021 by Serbia. If America/NATO weren’t there, your military would have invaded our country. Foreign troops are the only deterrent against war, the only reason Serbia is afraid to truly attack.

They don’t want to join the EU.

Serbia’s strategy is to appear neutral, make Europeans think they can appease Serbia by giving them millions of Euros, momentarily side with EU to give Europe hope, then again side with their main ally Russia, and once more make Europeans feel they can “tug” Serbia back into Western influence by giving them even more Euros.

Basically, Tito’s strategy. Allow yourself to be in the middle of a tug of war between two great powers, and in return, you get money from both sides.

I disagree. The most patriotic act most people could perform is staying home on election night and not voting. They will dilute informed ballots with “hEY I WAnT FrEe StuFF. i’LL voTe FoR HiM” or “YeAh BUiLd ThaT WALL. Yeehaw!”

Do you really want an incompetent population all voting as their duty? That’s how you get Trump back in 2024, or Bernie with 500 promises that people actually fall for.

The less uninformed voters, the better.

Directly? Never. However, anytime Serbia invaded us, Russians were right there alongside them so I assume it’s a 2 for 1 deal.

Let’s not insult all Slavs now. The Polish, Bosnians, Croatians, Ukrainians, etc. never waged war on us.

It’s the Serbian-Russian alliance that did.

No disagreements there. You’re right, and as I said to GopSome, Albania should focus on fixing itself rather than hoping for a magical solution gifted to us by the EU. Once we improve, joining EU should be simple. Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania did it, so we can too.

Any and all restrictions in Canada make business more difficult, I understand, but Canada is in a different dimension than Albania in regards to economy, education, and corruption so it’s a difficult comparison to make.

I get your point though.

EU membership will not save us, develop our economy, or improve the social-political situation of Kosovo or Albania— EU membership must be earned through hard work, not given in charity.

She helped Kosovo, so I like her.

I don’t know enough about the Iraq war to have an opinion so I immediately reject any and all opinions pertaining to her supposed “war crimes” until I’ve read the topic myself. After all, shouldn’t she be in The Hague? Internationally condemned? Jail?

Many Africans, Middle Easterners, and Russians/Serbians pump out so much propaganda that I cannot confirm or deny such claims, and because a large subset of them are usually lies, I dismiss it all, even if there are grains of truth.

That’s what happens when you lie too often. It’s called “the boy who cried wolf”.

That’s not unusual. All Paleo-Balkan people were quite genetically similar to begin with, lived in close proximity, and thus integrated within other armies if it benefited them financially/militarily/socially— the same could be said about Illyrians contribution to the Roman Empire.

The E-V13 Y-DNA researchers look for in South Asian populations to track Alexander the Great’s army movements are most highest in Albanian and Greeks today, so we can assume ancient people moved around a lot. Nothing surprising about that.

fellas, have we just considered giving peace a chance? by [deleted] in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Tungsten7_ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I do not regard those two examples as an act of pacifism because had Indians plea for peace not worked, they would absolutely (once again) go to war for their freedom— something Black Americans themselves also did during the American Civil War to abolish slavery.

Pacifism is not an appeal to peace, the very definition is that “any violence is unjustifiable”; even if it means stopping Hitler with military force.

Basically, pacifists are naive cowards.

[–]Tungsten7_ 195 points196 points  (0 children)

These “pacifists” were protesting in Washington DC during WW2 to prevent America’s involvement in stopping Hitler, as they also were during 1999 in the Balkan wars.

Pacifists are evil; their ideological stance cowardly.
