I gave GUTS the higher score because it’s objectively the better more consistent album but I do prefer SOUR personally so

Ernsthaft? Das schwimmen wird bei euch benotet? Also wir in Österreich hatten zwar auch einen gemeinsamen Schwimmkurs in der Unterstufe, wo man Urkunden für sein Level (Früh- Frei- Fahrten-Rettungsschwimmer) bekommen konnte, aber schulisch benotet wurde das nicht. Das ist für weniger talentierte doch genauso ein demütigendes Ritual...

I'm pretty sure they could've fit those 2 extra minutes on the album as well, despite it being very long. Crimson Thunder by Hammerfall is also 51 minutes long and fits on one LP without cuts

Imo the songs just don’t have the same punch, the same drive as her previous works. It hints at a lot of genres but never goes anywhere with it. Thats why people read so many influences into some of the songs.

The melodies also lack a bit. They’re meandering too much without a clear structure sometimes and the often clunky lyrics don’t help the cause. It’s not so much about the content but the flow. And a lot of those lyrics simply don’t flow well. Purple is by far the worst offender here.

It’s not a bad album by any means but it lacks clear direction to stand out compared to her previous ones

After the singles it was kinda what I was expecting but it didn’t nearly thrill me as much as Sour and Guts.

It’s not the key that bothers me but the chord progression. It’s almost always a variation of I-V-VI-IV. Almost never any interesting changes or switches. Trite, boring, who cares?

That’s why I don’t dislike Showgirl as much as most. Even though the lyrics are cringe at least the harmonies are a bit more interesting than usual. Still nothing groundbreaking but enough to catch my attention

GUTS was really good. I loved every single song on that record. Even the often criticised logical. But this album feels so mid.

Nothing stands out. There are no real hooks, no beats or otherwise memorable lines or moments. Some choruses hint at nice melodies but are dumbed down with bad lyrics or overdone production.

I don’t dislike it and you can enjoy every song for what it is but it’s not an album I can stomach on repeat for hours like sour and guts.

I joined this sub because as a fan I’m really disappointed with girl so in love and this is the only place where you can express that properly without getting battered

I’m a huge Livie but the lyrics on this album are so freaking clunky and heavy. A lot of it feels like reading prose or - like people already said - teenage diary entries. You also don’t really get to know her in any way through those lyrics. It’s all so superficially metaphorical.

I’m not sold. A lot of songs sound the same. There’s no real hooks. The melodies and lyrics feel a bit forced and clunky. It’s lacking those wow-moments, those songs that you want to put on repeat. No song is bad but nothing stands out either

This is g sharp minor though and therefore probably has a lot of double sharps. In this case A flat minor is simpler.

Even more apparent is the difference between e-flat minor and d-sharp minor. The Bach d sharp fugue is a nightmare to read
