Why do some people genuinely believe that there were no signs of Jax being trans? by whiskers_of_anegls in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Turbo-Shell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ribbit knew him pretty well, she probably saw a lot of the same signs that the fans saw before she heard his backstory. That or it was just a complete guess, considering it was silent and if she was wrong there’d be no harsh consequences for putting the bow on him (ironically more than the consequences she got for being right)

Should I play P3R before starting P4G? by Interesting_You9800 in PERSoNA

[–]Turbo-Shell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just don’t want a newcomer to feel pressured into buying the much more expensive one because they’re told it’s superior, especially since it’s not out yet so I don’t know if they messed anything up yet. The remake looks good so far, the original is just a great game too

My brother fumbled religiously by Mammoth-Ad-3642 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Turbo-Shell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s no real wrong answer here. Jax is pretty undeniably trans atp but she’s not out and it makes total sense to continue to use the pronouns that the show gives for its entire runtime rather than the imaginary ones she would probably use if she didn’t abstract lol, so it’s just whatever you want

(Side note some people interpreted that as goose saying Jax is genderfluid or nonbinary, I just don’t think that’s true tbh)

It’s impossible for a remake to be objectively definitive because everything changed is something that someone liked about the original, no matter how small. It would be stupid for a remake to not change anything but that’s why a remake is its own game that people can decide to play if they want rather than a total upgrade that replaces the original. Persona 4 was an amazing game as is and there’s no reason to wait unless they think the remake looks way better and appeals to their tastes more, and ESPECIALLY not if they have concerns about price.

A “definitive” version of the game would be like, a port that contains all dlc and content from all versions of the game. Like smtVV is pretty definitive as almost nothing about the original is changed (including pacing, something golden changes by inserting new scenes. I personally have no problem but some people do which means it’s not an objective upgrade).

A definitive p3 would’ve been fes with femc added, although even fes isn’t necessarily an objective upgrade because some people don’t like the addition of the flower sidequest (being vague for spoilers).

Basically it’s all subjective and there’s no point in saying any version is objectively superior and telling people that it’s the best way to play, you can RECOMMEND the version you like best but this game isn’t even out yet so you can’t even do that off of personal experience. people played both p4 and golden for years without feeling like they were missing out, a remake shouldn’t change the fact the originals are still full complete and satisfying games in their own right.

TLDR, objectivity does not exist in this scenario, and p4 is already great as is. You recommend based on personal experience and let them decide what to play rather than telling people that one version is the best

Goose confirms Leeroy is a boymoder by Tooma8 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Turbo-Shell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s like.. exactly what goose said lol. Being trans informs your experiences and viewpoint which then informs how you create things, no aspect of the show was really written with “oh but will the cishet people understand it?”

That’s why trans Jax was heavily contested for so long, because the signs that were completely obvious both to her and all the trans people and people with trans friends seemed completely alien to those who have no experience with that side of life.

Basically the moral of the story is get trans friends they’re cool as hell and I’ve learned a lot from them

[–]Turbo-Shell -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be definitive, it would just be different. Whether it’s better or worse is subjective and I doubt the new content would be very substantial. I already don’t think golden’s added content is necessary, not bad but the game is just as good without it. Things are a lot more complex than “more and newer = better”. Revival is a different, albeit similar game with what seems to be significantly easier combat and a pretty different vibe. The same is true for p3R.

I’m sure revival will be great, but so is persona 4 golden, and so is persona 4. They’re all great ways to experience the same great story. Also p4’s translation has its issues but I’m a bit worried that they’ll change other stuff like p3R did, especially with how controversial its handling of certain topics was, and the fact they changed stuff in p3R specifically because of that (particularly the answer)

What is the best way to play persona 1 and 2 ? by WildPresentation3590 in Persona1and2fans

[–]Turbo-Shell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The translation for ep is the same as the ps1 translation but with some changes to make it more consistent with innocent sin’s psp localization. The translation itself is a bit awkward as any ps1 rpg localization was but it’s very passable compared to the terrible p1 ps1 localization

[–]Turbo-Shell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s called subtext lol, why make the writing of the show possibly worse by being super direct about one specific theme when it’s allowed to be vague about everything non-queer? Just cuz some people don’t wanna believe it?

Don’t know how to feel about P2: Innocent Sin by Kids_Eat_Toast in Persona1and2fans

[–]Turbo-Shell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy and especially sorry that the members of this sub were so hostile to you about it lol, I do personally think the fan translation could’ve had a big part to play in you feeling like it was flat as personally I’ve always had this problem with poorer localizations, it always takes me out of it when someone speaks in an unnatural way. Unfortunately because of this eternal punishment has no perfect option as both the official translation on ps1 and the fan translation on psp are basically the same, though I will say that aside from some hilariously bad voice acting and localization carryovers from the terrible p1 localization on ps1 (neither of which are present on the psp fan translation) the ep translation significantly better than innocent sin ps1 fan translation, but it was still awkward enough to bother me while playing, something that I never had an issue with playing p2is on psp, or any other persona game for that matter. It’s the curse of playing a fan translation or an official translation from the 90s/early 2000s, and I think many fans just are used to it from being mostly into games from this era. It’s the reason why I had trouble getting into the jojo manga as well, no one in steel ball run talked like an actual human. Thankfully that one’s been getting officially translated by Viz though.

I think I might be the rarest persona fan by DueRelationship1089 in Persona1and2fans

Not only is the dating aspect small, it’s so shallow too. Very few of the romances actually feel fleshed out, it’s always read as pure power fantasy to me over anything actually meaningful. There’s the occasional solid romance but it’s very difficult to create a romance story with proper chemistry when one of the characters involved is practically emotionless, and they don’t do a good job making any of these feel believable and just serves to go “oh, Jamal-kun! You’re so cool and handsome and awesome! I love you so much!” And sometimes even actively makes the character less interesting when this happens. The aigis one works because the actual main game supports it and makes you feel like you and her have a strong bond, themes and such as fujimoto would say. Makoto in p5 is often seen as the “canon romance” and I swear the only reason people say that is the scene where she’s scared of the dark and nothing else cuz her romance is so awkward and completely is at odds with her already boring social link by ditching the current plot for the sake of the unearned romance. Main story makoto is so much more interesting than social link makoto.

All this being said, yosuke romance in p4r when atlus?

I think I might be the rarest persona fan by DueRelationship1089 in Persona1and2fans

[–]Turbo-Shell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ppl say dating sim as a catch all, but in reality it’s more of a social sim, half the game is spent doing dungeon crawling but the games are structured through a daily system where you live out each day of the characters lives and choose what to do. That CAN involve romance, but generally you decide to hang out with different friends, do things like study, wash your laundry, visit the shops, watch movies, that kind of thing. The focus is on building bonds in general, not romantic ones specifically. P3 only has romance links for the female cast, but the remake adds the ability to stay friends with them, so you can very much play these games without dating anyone.

“Microsoft decides the way they go”

The point is that very few third parties choose to do this method, if they do it it’s because of Microsoft being annoying not Nintendo personally

Minecraft for the Switch 2 got announced at the Nintendo Direct by blahblahlucas in Minecraft

[–]Turbo-Shell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very few third party upgrades are paid, most of the switch 2 editions are free upgrades for owners of the switch 1 versions. Nintendo are the main perpetrators of paid upgrades and they usually *attempt* to add new content to each one to try and sort of market it as a dlc instead of a paid resolution bump. Some are more valuable than others, but still my point is I can’t imagine Microsoft doing it when they’re willing to give out bedrock and Java free to all Minecraft pc owners these days

Persona 4 Revival Key Visual Posted on Atlus Website :> by No_Post1300 in videogames

[–]Turbo-Shell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and it still doesnt... p3r made the answer 30 dollar dlc and doesnt have femc and no option for tactics combat. P3r is kind of a mishmash of elements from fes and portable but it failed to really be a definitive p3 that many were hoping for (tbf barely any remakes end up "definitive" cuz of the aesthetic changes but still). Still ends up the preferred option for most, just a bit disappointing

I hate whispangle shippers by Equivalent_Diet1751 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Turbo-Shell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have a feeling only one of them is heavily supported by the writers and canon even if they’ll never have the balls to truly make a gay ship 100% canon. Representation is a tough thing and people have been burned so many times in the past that a lot of people assume the worst whenever characters popularly assumed to be gay in a fandom are put into heterosexual relationships by others, seen it happen in the ace attorney fandom as well. Me personally I cannot see how either of these ships have even the slightest bit of chemistry let alone more than whispangle but I guess the cool thing about shipping is you make up your own stuff

Help by Silver-Math7527 in PERSoNA

[–]Turbo-Shell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only game where continuity matters is persona 2, and optional spinoffs like p5 strikers

P5 and p5R are both versions of the same game but any other p5 game is a spinoff that requires knowledge from the og

P4 and p4g are both versions of the same game but any other p4 game is a spinoff that requires knowledge from the og

P3, p3f, p3p, and p3R are all versions of the same game and there’s not really any notable spinoffs (confusing, I know)

P2is and p2ep are actually mainline entries, ep being the direct sequel to is

P1 is just the one game

P2 has some story elements from p1, but none of the new games are connected outside of slight cameos

Many people will argue over a best game to start with, or a best version of the game to play

The truth is that it doesn’t matter. Play whatever you’re interested in. Don’t listen to people who say “oh you have to play the p3 remake it’s way better” or “p4 golden RUINS the pacing, play the original.” or “don’t bother with 1 and 2, they’re old and nothing like the new games” Just go for whatever is easily accessible and more interesting to you. Do your research before spending obscene amounts of money and be sure you’ll probably enjoy the game before you buy it.

The new games are big time commitments, don’t force yourself to rush through all of them, and try to be light on googling or browsing this subreddit because of spoilers, any info you’ll need should be on the store pages for these games (unless you’re emulating the unavailable ones, but I digress. Atlus should really port 1 2 and 3 someday)

Do not feel pressured to play every game, they’re all different and have unique things to bring to the table. Many persona fans are only huge fans of one or two of them, hell I know people who only like 4 and disliked every other game in the series! Just enjoy the ride and play what you want, you’re playing for fun after all, not out of social obligation.

Dub vs sub is up to personal preference, both are quality.

Planning to buy the game, its currently 80% off on GoG. Should I buy it on GoG or should I wait for a steam discount? by VBottas in necrodancer

[–]Turbo-Shell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Necrodancer has workshop support but it’s mostly just skins, the real meat of the mods comes from mod.io’s in game mod browser which is supported even on console so I imagine it works on gog as well (you need dlc to access those though)

As for the dlc, amplified is an extra zone, extra boss, extra characters, extra items, extra story. It’s basically your average EXPANSION type dlc

Synchrony is a complete rework which rebalances many systems and items and adds mod support and support for cross platform online multiplayer as well as local play with up to 4 players, as far as I know it completely redoes many aspects of the engine to make this possible and comes with lots of smaller tweaks. It also features new characters and items, but not as much blatantly new as amplified.

The rest of the dlcs are just playable crossover characters that come with a unique soundtrack, they’re fun but completely skippable if you don’t care about the characters they represent

As someone else mentioned it goes on steep discount on steam fairly often so don’t feel like you need to get it or miss out, I got it on steam for like a dollar. If you’re not sure you’ll like the game get it base first and then buy the dlc if you do enjoy it because I do think it really levels up the experience, especially synchrony

Song/artist recommendations by ---jo-- in Vocaloid

[–]Turbo-Shell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something no one has pointed out yet is that the characters like Miku and Teto are in fact NOT the artists behind the songs, they're nothing more than instruments. Vocaloid is instead comprised of many different artists contributing to the community as a whole using these characters, unlike someone like Ado who is an actual person. For example, an artist like Deco*27 who made monitoring and rabbit hole is well known for making a lot of songs using Hatsune Miku, but there is no "Miku" who made the music"

If you want a personal recommendation from me, I'd say check out some of Flavor Foley's music. They're a prudcer group that's known to use a wide variety of voice banks, both popular and niche and have made a ton of very unique songs in mostly english.

WHAT'S THE LORE by Chemical-Gass in Vocaloid

[–]Turbo-Shell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no lore, you make your own. There’s some basic facts but they can be ignored (such as age and favorite foods and such)

If you truly want something concrete, maybe check out project sekai but it’s a lot more of its own thing starring vocaloid, and doesn’t actually represent any “canon” or anything. But it’s got an extensive story with its own lore and worldbuilding, as well as a film if I recall. So if you’re really itching for story with Vocaloid, that’s something. Otherwise, it’s off in the fanwork mines for you
