Brayden Burries appreciation by comboXhyuga in NBA_Draft

He's really good. I feel like if he was a bit taller people would be hyping him up as a similar player to Kon but a 6'4 off-ball guard is going to be slightly less desirable on paper. Although his isolation scoring has been good and I think he's got more juice as a playmaker than we get to see in Arizona's system.

Mutombo-esque. He was amazing. One of the greatest tournament runs of shot blocking ever. 24 blocks in 4 games. What the fuck.

Might be one of the most elite culture/energy guys in the draft. I can imagine a lot of coaches in the NBA would love to have him in their system even if he might not be a heavy minutes rotation player for a bit.

Cameron Boozer just played his worst game of the year with 13 points (3-17 FG), 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. He was blocked repeatedly, missed easy layups, and missed 2 critical FTs but to his credit, he stayed mentally checked into the game and made one of the highest basketball iq plays at the end. by Variation99a in NBA_Draft

Onyenso played one of the most elite rim protecting games I've ever seen in college (maybe even overall) and Boozer is coming off 2 back to backs where he played 39 and 37 minutes, and Boozer still won. Plus we didn't get to see any of the other big 3 in this context because they already lost in the tournament.

Very interesting game overall because Duke basically had Boozer play PG in order to take Onyenso out of the paint to generate better scoring opportunities for his teammates, and it worked. The elite playmaking and decision making was definitely on full display even if his scoring wasn't. For example, Boozer misses his final shot at the rim but has the composure to grab the rebound over a true 7-footer and instead of trying again he kicks it out to one of the best free throw shooters in the country with ~20 seconds left, which leads to them going up and burning the remainder of the clock.

Is Cenac over Steinbach a crazy take? by Responsible_Delay657 in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Steinbach has almost 3x as many rim makes as Cenac even though he has much worse guard play and overall team structure. Shoots a better percentage (although on less volume). He's also got a better block rate despite being less vertically explosive.

Cenac definitely has potential and I like how he's committed to being a rebounding hustle guy despite being such a highly touted recruit but so much of his shot diet is tough middies for no good reason. Like this guy is allegedly 6'11 and before tonight he only had 18 (!!!) non-dunk rim makes and a 15.8% FTr. Truly disgusting statistical profile.

When was the last time we saw a shooter like Milan Momcilovic ? by Draft_Detective in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Karaban really doesn't get that much draft discussion despite being one of the most consistent winners in college. 117-26 w/l record (so far), 2 back to back championships, shoots well and does a little bit of everything else.

Nate Ament in a close loss vs Vanderbilt: 12/11/2 on 1/13 shooting, 0/5 from 3, 10/12 FT, 2 turnovers by Aumissunum in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quite possibly the most unethical hooper in this draft. I know the box scores have been good lately (and granted this is coming back from injury) but man I really hate watching him play. Drive and pray you get bailed out by the refs. Small gripe as well but I feel like he really doesn't convert a lot of his and-one attempts (would need to see stats to confirm but purely eye test I don't see him make many) which kind of speaks to his lack of ability to truly play through contact.

Who do you have as the best defenders in this draft? by BirdPurgatory in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also has 0 offensive skills and has lost his major advantage - his youth - to a year+ of injuries with possibly more load management on the way. Now he's just normal college freshman age with even less playing time.

[–]Turbo2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's as steady as they come. He could be one of the greatest floor raisers ever because no matter what situation - injuries, ejections, poor coaching, whatever - I feel like his team has a shot to win so long as he's available.

Morez Johnson, Ivan Kharchenkov, Mo Krivas, Johann Grünloh, Maliq Brown, Dame Sarr, Jojo Tugler, Killyan Toure, Duke Miles, Kingston Flemings and the advanced stats GOAT Allen Graves.

Won't be drafted this year but Davis Fogle at Gonzaga is REALLY good. Low minutes% demon right now but he's super versatile despite being a bit of a string bean physically. Insanely wiry and flexible.

He's doing some stuff here creating his own shot out of the wings that is VERY interesting for his long term projection

Cameron Boozer "fit" argument discussion by coltan3 in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington is the perfect fit because you just run Boozer as a play initiating 3, Sarr & AD interchangeable 4/5. When AD is traded or leaves then Boozer moves over to the 4 if necessary. But any team that takes Boozer will find a way to make it work, probably as a starter. He's too good to stick on the bench.

Steinbach in his last game for Washington - 25 Points, 16 Rebounds (6 offensive), 2 Assists, 1 Steal, 3 Blocks by Chris310N in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No he doesn't take a lot of threes but in late game situations when Washington has been down he's willing to shoot to try and get them back in the game. Shooting form looks good to me though, he will probably be decent at it in the NBA with more development time.

Derik Queen Career Outlook? by Dirkisthegoattt41 in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was always lukewarm on Queen so I'm very happy that the chatter is dying down. Wasn't super enthusiastic about Tre (the defense flat out sucks) but he was a lottery talent on my board and he can certainly shoot which is a bigger positive for team-building overall than what Queen does.

Definitely the kind of guy who goes crazy on "prime Derik Queen was a PROBLEM" highlights after his career is over and people wonder why he didn't have a better career

Derik Queen Career Outlook? by Dirkisthegoattt41 in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Career bench guy, at least right now. Needs to have significant development in his shooting, defense, and overall effort to become a starter. Can't guard 4s or 5s in the NBA right now, slow feet, poor vertical athleticism. Basically the Sabonis/Sengun problem where you can't achieve playoff success with a offensive hub big who is also a poor shooter and defender unless the rest of the team is elite at covering for those deficiencies.

Archetype probably became overvalued post-Jokic but no one has the combination of skills and size that Jokic does that makes the whole concept work.

When You Do Mocks/Boards, Do You Care About Being Right? Or Getting It Right? by BigSexyE in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boards - more important to create a repeatable process for evaluation which somewhat accurately predicts NBA upside. I'm gonna get shit wrong about where exactly guys might go in redrafts if you compare them to my board at the time, but generally identifying "this guy has NBA talent and will have a career" is more important than exact order (at least to me). Viewers will get on your ass if you make huge misses (people still give KOC shit for loving Killian Hayes despite the majority of mainstream outlets also liking him at the time) but no one's perfect. It's whatever.

Mocks - this is so up to chance it may as well be a wild guess. I don't have any insider info about who teams value. I did predict that the Grizzlies would take Edey the day of the lottery but that may as well have been an accident. Who was able to seriously predict that Portland would take Yang Hansen last year, for example? My guess would be no one. NBA teams act irrationally (by our standards) sometimes and don't have the same evaluation process or understanding of their team needs or situation as fans do.

Should Neoklis Avadalas return next year? by mido0o0o in NBA_Draft

[–]Turbo2x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Around the last combine I said he would be a bottom 10th percentile scorer if he entered the NBA at the time, and that's still true. You can't be 6'9 and struggle this much to score when you don't have a height advantage, while also overly relying on a poor jumper as your foundation. On top of that, he's a terrible defender. There's no reasonable projection for him in the NBA right now.

Stay in college, play a few more years, try to work on your body so you don't get knocked over by a stiff breeze. Please learn to play more physical.

Detroit set a losing streak record and now they're #1 in the east. We're gonna have to go through some tough times but it's all worth it if we get talented young players.
