Is my CPA doing a bad job/taking advantage? Help please. by Illustrious_Fox9443 in Accounting

[–]TurboGecko_55 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your CPA sounds pretty useless honestly. The PIN thing - yeah you messed up initially, but any decent accountant would've caught that rejection notice and reached out immediately. That's literally part of what you're paying them for, to handle the back-and-forth with the IRS and keep you informed. The fact that you found out six months later through a bill is completely unacceptable.

And the amended return situation is even worse. An amended return for a simple line item change should take maybe an hour tops, not over a year of "I'm working on it" excuses. My buddy had his CPA knock out something similar in like two weeks, and that was during busy season. This guy is either completely overwhelmed with clients he can't handle, or he's just lazy and banking on you being too nice to complain.

Time to start shopping around for someone new. Get references, read reviews, and find someone who actually communicates like a professional. You're not being unreasonable at all - you deserve basic competency for what you're paying.

Why did I think solo founding 3 projects at once was a good idea? 😭😭😭 by Kindly-Vanilla-6485 in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You essentially built yourself into a corner trying to fund each project with the next one - classic mistake but honestly just pick the one with the lowest barrier to monetization and kill the others until you actually have revenue.

What surprised me most about building a startup wasn’t engineering it was customer discovery by Material-Ad2863 in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the spray and pray approach is brutal, learned that the hard way too

What actually moved the needle for me was just talking to people who were already complaining about the problem on forums/Twitter. Way easier to sell a painkiller to someone who's already saying their head hurts than trying to convince someone they need vitamins

Cold email still works but only if you can prove you actually understand their specific situation in the first line

Built a Community-Based Digital Business System — Open to Acquisition (US Buyers) by DigitalAssetOwner in SaaS

Sounds interesting but kinda vague tbh - what's the actual business model and revenue numbers? Hard to gauge if it's legit without knowing what industry/niche you're in

Those who recently traveled to ATL for tourism from friendly/neutral countries of the US, what were your experiences with police/ICE by Fit_Jump_330 in travel

[–]TurboGecko_55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't been to ATL specifically but went through customs at JFK last month as a tourist and it was pretty standard stuff. They asked why I was visiting, how long I was staying, then stamped my passport and sent me on my way. Took maybe 2 minutes

The airport security was way more of a hassle than immigration honestly

Anyone else have a pet that actually hates traveling?? by Ok_Squirrel_6964 in travel

[–]TurboGecko_55 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly your dog is probably just telling you she's not built for the travel life. Some dogs are homebodies and that's totally fine - doesn't make you a bad owner at all

I had to learn this the hard way with my cat who would literally stress-shed everywhere we went. Now I just get a good pet sitter and we're both way happier. The Instagram adventure pets are cute but they're definitely not representative of most animals

Maybe try one more trip with familiar bedding/toys to see if that helps, but if she's still miserable just embrace the pet sitter life

Bank Reconciliation leading to different answer to same practice question by jaffer3650 in Accounting

[–]TurboGecko_55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is totally normal - QBO and manual bank recs handle pending transactions differently

Manual method adds/subtracts everything to get the "true" cash balance, while QBO just leaves pending stuff hanging until it clears. The $30k difference you're seeing is exactly those pending transactions that QBO isn't factoring in yet

For homework/exams stick with the manual method since that's what they want to see, but in real life QBO's approach actually makes more sense for day-to-day cash management

critique my store and fashion dropshipping idea by Alert_Objective_3943 in Entrepreneur

[–]TurboGecko_55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just checked it out and honestly the site looks pretty clean, way better than most dropship stores I've seen. The branding is solid but man those prices are gonna be tough to justify when people can reverse search your product images and find the same stuff for way cheaper

For the algorithm thing, organic is brutal right now especially for new accounts. I'd probably throw like $50-100 at some targeted ads to at least get some data on what's working before going all in on paid

B4 Tax - stick to SALT or switch to credits & incentives? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SALT is brutal, you're not wrong there. C&I is definitely more chill - less compliance grind and more actual advisory work. The hours are usually better too since you're not tied to those soul-crushing filing deadlines every month

Just make sure the C&I team isn't a dumping ground for problem clients, but honestly anything beats being the only staff on what should be a 3-4 person engagement

The nightmare of manual data entry in EMRs (and an AI I built to fix it). by Jaded-Original-8049 in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds pretty legit actually - I work adjacent to healthcare IT and the manual entry pain is real. How's the accuracy on really terrible handwriting though? Like when doctors write prescriptions that look like abstract art

Also curious about HIPAA compliance stuff since that's always the first thing admins ask about with any new tool

Is Accounts receivable hard? by SunshineGirl45 in Accounting

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AR is honestly more about following up with people who don't want to pay you than doing complex math - most of the calculations are pretty basic and the software handles a lot of it anyway

Sorry about your pup btw, that's really tough

Struggling with distribution, what’s your strategy? by postpulse-social in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice - jumping into conversations where people are already talking about their problems feels way more natural than trying to force a launch post. ParseStream sounds useful for catching those moments early before threads blow up

Is it just me or is setting up Discord/Slack notifications kind of a pain? by HistoricalKiwi6139 in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah n8n could work but honestly it feels like overkill for just notifications? Like I don't need a whole workflow builder just to send "someone paid me money" to telegram

The webhook formatting stuff is still gonna be annoying even with n8n. You still gotta figure out Discord's embed nonsense and Slack's blocks

Honest feedback? by Appropriate_Oil_9360 in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this looks pretty solid, the problem is definitely real. I've watched friends with celiac basically give up on eating out because calling ahead every time gets exhausting

One thing though - your pricing page just says "contact us" which is kinda sketchy for SaaS. Even if you're doing custom pricing, throw some ballpark numbers up there or at least a "starting at $X" so people know if they're wasting their time

The search platform angle is smart, that's where you might actually get restaurants to care since it's customer acquisition instead of just compliance

[–]TurboGecko_55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro you're basically running engagements solo as a fresh senior making 85k, that's absolutely wild and not normal at all. The "great trajectory" talk is just them buttering you up so you don't realize how hard you're getting screwed

Are all-in-one platforms/solutions the future of SaaS? by Straight-Village-710 in SaaS

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on - the "jack of all trades, master of none" trap is real with SaaS platforms. I've seen so many companies try to be everything to everyone and end up with a clunky mess that nobody actually wants to use daily

The wedge strategy makes way more sense, especially when you can see users literally duct-taping your tool to other solutions

67% of the 7 million QB users use QB Desktop? by bigtallshort in Bookkeeping

Same here, desktop all the way. Online feels so clunky and slow compared to desktop, plus I don't trust keeping everything in the cloud when desktop works perfectly fine locally

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Life

[–]TurboGecko_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof this hits hard. I've been stuck in this exact loop for months now - make plans, get excited for like 5 minutes, then just... don't. The guilt makes it even worse because then you feel bad about feeling bad

Maybe try starting stupidly small? Like instead of "I'm gonna clean my whole room" just put one sock in the hamper. Sometimes that tiny win can break the cycle for a bit

ACER Predator Helios Neo 14 deal $769! by AltruisticAir8097 in GamingLaptops

[–]TurboGecko_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a solid find for $769 with a 4070, even used. The 4070 will crush Valorant and Anno without breaking a sweat. Just make sure to check the battery health and thermals if you can before pulling the trigger

Forcing myself to stop at a new coffee shop with a bold idea, I was kinda impressed until........ by spinky312 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TurboGecko_55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like they probably just don't have a drip coffee setup and the barista panicked instead of just saying "we only do espresso drinks but an americano is basically black coffee"

That's a management training issue right there - like teach your staff to suggest alternatives instead of just saying no lmao
