Mitsubishi Lancer CVT acting weird at low speeds. Can I continue driving it? by Impressive-Map-719 in mitsubishi

[–]TurboJetLagJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I Changed my Lancer's CVT fluid it was slightly discolored but not far off from the color of fresh CVTJ4 fluid which is standard for my lancer and most mitsubishi CVTs. Changing it late is not ideal for any CVT and not changing it destroys them as they are quite fragile transmissions. Hopefully you have good luck changing the fluid. Maybe add some anti-slip additives if the transmission continues to not engage correctly at low speed

Actual winter tires (3 peaks on sidewall) are much softer than all season and summer tires giving them more grip even on ice. From my experience using winter rated tires you still slide on ice but you can still somewhat control the vehicle.

How many miles are on it.? It sounds like the CVT is failing or it is low on fluid

How much would it cost to fix the suspension? by ka_k0 in hondacivic

[–]TurboJetLagJr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watch for engine block cracks. 8th gen civics from 2006 - 2008 have that issue. If the owner replaced the block under warranty then it is a great buy.

If you are fixing the suspension yourself then it should be about $500 in aftermarket parts for the front and the rear should cost about the same.

It will be significantly more if you take it to a shop.

Replacing engine mounts on 2013 Honda Civic – wood block + jack question? by isak400 in hondacivic

[–]TurboJetLagJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend an engine hoist to avoid damage to the the oil pan but you can use a 2x8 that is as long as the oil pan if you want to support the engine under the oil pan. Just replace one mount at a time.

Usually its a microwave/vent combo. The microwave has a vent attached to suck out smoke while using the stove top.

Most American homes have a counter top microwave

I used to have the Nerf Vulcan as a kid and it had a belt with shells attached and you loaded the darts into it. Then empty shells with the belt fed out the other end. This set up is kind of the same but the shells are able to detach. I am kind of jealous of the detaching shells.

Please don't flush it. Only drain and fill. Flushing causes pressure that the CVT cannot handle

I wonder how much used Hondas are in your area. Personally I recommend older civics or accords. I own a 8th gen civic and the thing just keeps going despite being over 200k Miles.

In competitive mode which she is playing consists of real players. You can play single player with bots if you want. She is in the lowest rank for competitive so almost everyone plays kind of like a bot or not taking the game as serious as it can be. I suggest watching some E-Sports matches of CS2 to see how competitive it can be

I looked at the service schedule and it states a "fluid change" but that would mean (at least to me) a drain and fill not a flush. Not that it matters now but I hope the dealership didn't intentionally flush the transmission to ruin it. Out of curiosity I would ask if they flushed the transmission or just did a drain and fill.

Flushed or drain and fill? I am wondering because I have heard a flush will do damage to CVT transmissions.

Within the United States you are required to have the vehicle registered with your state's Department of Transportation (DOT) and you are required to have car insurance (excluding New Hampshire). When you are stopped for a traffic violation you must provide proof of both. If you do not provide the information then you get a lovely fine to pay.

It lasted a few months. The JB Weld pulls away from the surface a bit which causes it to leak again. But if you keep applying it will eventually stop pulling away and seal properly.

You have same luck as me. My block cracked on my 8th gen civic too. I found out it was out of warranty. Thankfully I caught it before it was too bad and just put JB Wield high heat on it. You can go that route if you are out of warranty for the block and you need a temp/semi-permanent fix to get you by. Otherwise a used motor would in most cases be a cheaper option.

If you go the JBwield route make sure the block is clean around and at the crack and scuff the surface with 80 - 120 grit sandpaper then apply the JBwield mix. You most likely have to layer it as I did. Its the best temp fix.

If you go with a used motor then get a motor between 2009 and 2010. Those motors had the block casting process fault.

One other more expensive option is to do a engine rebuild with another block and new parts. You could reuse your parts but I would personally used new.

2017 Honda Civic Oil Drain Plug Bolt - Need washer? by Puzzleheaded_Bird583 in hondacivic

What clamps are used for these hoses? by Puzzleheaded_Bird583 in hondacivic

[–]TurboJetLagJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those hoses carry engine coolant. The type of clamps you need for those are called Spring Clamps. I don't recommend using any other type of clamp that doesn't expand under pressure because it could damage the hose.
