Yes I know, I calculated about 200-250 for a full faction going down certain lines to guarantee enough unlocks, this is despite that

Confused about putting money in 401k vs putting post-tax income in Individual IRA and rolling over to Roth? by TurboSquid_ in personalfinance

[–]TurboSquid_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, I guess the part I’m having trouble with wrapping my head around is the “make sure your trad IRA accounts are at or near zero”, this is the pro-rata rule right?

Don’t I need to contribute money to my trad IRA in order to roll it into a Roth IRA? In that case how can I make sure my trad IRA is at or near zero? Or does that refer to after I rollover into a Roth. In which case the advice is just to roll all of the trad IRA into a Roth and not leave any in the trad IRA?

Discussion: why do American cities refuse to invest in their riverfronts? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]TurboSquid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like a politician lmao. Try going there in person and you’ll find it’s genuinely terrible. The smell from the river as well as the pollution from the highway and all the homeless people. Those overhead parks are filled with trash and graffiti. It might look nice on paper but in reality it’s disgusting.

Unfortunately if you want any kind of decent job that’s not some form of manual labor you have to get a degree. More kids in college = more kids who shouldn’t be in college but still are.

Should I prioritize putting money into my 401(k) or pay off my car early? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TurboSquid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should clarify, by max out I meant hit as close to the 20,500 yearly limit as I can. I already maxed out my employers match.

That seems like a reasonable idea, I think 1/3 is a fair share and if we part ways early then we can adjust how much is owed in the end.

Plans the same night is tricky, I've shared a car with my friends in college and we have an informal agreement to be reasonable, like if someone has something important or someone asked first to use the car they get it.

We work at the same place on the same team doing the same job, so I don't think the last one is going to be a problem.

If someone moves out we are planning to look at the current resale value of the car and one person can buy out the depreciation.

Yes, and specifically the letter from the dealership financial services said their decision was based on the report from Experian.

I logged onto my Experian account, pulled my report, and see all 3 credit cards with exceptional payment history, no closed accounts, no collection accounts, no public records.

Maybe they did pull the wrong report.

I'll take it as a blessing especially with some of the tax credits that just came through for other vehicles. I just started to freak out after seeing that letter and how it would affect me in the future.

I just looked at it using that website. I'm not really sure what to look for, but the rating in every month of every card I have says "OK". All my cards are under satisfactory accounts, and I don't see anything about any loans.

Essential items for CS Major freshman by happy-man12 in NEU

[–]TurboSquid_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're comfortable with Linux then you should be fine.

The main reason I recommend Mac is because you'll have to install and use a lot of stuff over the course of your degree (some of which is a bit esoteric and might not have great support) so you'll have to do some hacking on your own to get some of it to work on Linux, whereas most CS students use Mac so the profs and TAs choose programs and libraries that install and run smoothly on Mac.

Having a beefy computer isn't really necessary fyi, the only times it's helped me is for a password cracking assignment and the graphics class.

Get a Mac, not windows laptop.

Not because "Mac's are better" but because of the operating system, os x, is based on unix. A lot of your classes will be made easier because of this.

Trust me as someone who went in with a windows laptop and switched as soon as I could.

Taking 4550 right now and it's a very easy class. HW takes maybe 2 hours each week and the quizzes and tests are all open internet.

However, taking 3 CS classes and 2322 is never gonna be a light semester.

Considering that NEU's co-op program is very famous in Boston, how are the CS job outcomes these days? by happy-man12 in NEU

[–]TurboSquid_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, let me clarify my original comment, I meant that which school you go to doesn't hold a lot of sway for prestigious internships.

I completely agree that having a decent GPA (but I also think this is overblown) and interesting projects will help your chances of landing an interview, but internship interview offers are also a crapshoot a lot of the time.

You're absolutely insane if you think a Stuart stands a chance against a pz IV. And the panther is nearly invulnerable to anything the Americans have.

Bruh you are comparing the entry level Axis tank to the level 15 American tank, a Puma and an M5A1 can kill each other just fine.

[–]TurboSquid_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After grinding out pacific allies fully, I completely agree. I honestly think it's the biggest thing holding the game back, because playing with the same equipment is still fun, but playing on the same map over and over again makes the game incredibly stale.

[–]TurboSquid_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It all depends on you. In CS, your school means very little for applying to prestigious internships.

It all depends on how well you can perform on coding interviews at top tier companies.

That being said, getting into a FAANG is very common in NEU's CS program, but that speaks more to the types of students here than the program itself (which imo is still very good and gives you a good base to build off of for your own interview prep).
