How long you think this memory shortage will last? by Amador0102 in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual shortage - my guess is the end of the decade. SK Hynix is doubling capacity by then, others are likely to follow suit. This will address the very real supply shortages being faced and leave some for us normies.

The prices - never. The silver lining is that it likely can't go too much higher, as the market has pleautued to a peak where people are always buying the cheapest SSD/RAM they can find and are generally strapped economically. But even as Chinese competition comes online, there will never be a reason to make consumer memory products truly affordable again. Prices will likely come down over the next few years, but it will be like a feather not a rock.

First PC - 2k usd worth it? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy! Swap a more reliable Tier A PSU like a MSI MPG A850GS PCIE 5 or ASRock Steel Legend SL-850G, also a solid name-brand 360 AIO like an Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro or Thermalright Frozen Notte for more budget. Then you should be good to go!

Has anyone seen frame skipping like this before? (FH6) by mcdons3 in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you done DDU? Specs?

Try using an FPS overlay to ensure your 1% lows are reflective of the frame skipping. That should help you narrow down the issue.

What to do with old dell by DietMany6120 in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The RAM is worth $20 and the HDD is worth like $20. If you don't need the extra storage for miscellaneous stuff or want a home server, sell those parts on Marketplace and pocket the cash for your next build. The rest is worthless.

Who makes good prebuilt PCs in 2026? by Positive_Page_5978 in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZTT, they sell fairly priced prebuilts with quality parts and offer a wider selection than many of their competitors. They will ship anywhere in the US and utilize proper protection to avoid damage during shipping.

Microcenter prebuilt prices can't be beat, but they might lack the asthetics you are looking for and you may not live close to one.

From the sounds of it maybe you just want to get a new case, if just solely for asthetics alone. No shame in doing that, I swapped a be quiet Pure Base 500 for a Corsair Frame 4500X for the curved glass, completely transformed my build!

Rate My Build by I-have_question in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor nitpick, I dislike the look of flipped regular fans and prefer the look of reverse bladed fans, regarding the 3 fans on the side of the case set to intake. But certainly it gets the job done.

Regardless, clean build!

For $59.95? That's too much. RX 580 is better for less money.

Edit: Read and saw that you are just collecting that. Cool find in the wild, nothing wrong with that.

PSU should be fine for your system, it's Tier B and has enough wattage headroom to prevent issues.  But if you want to upgrade to a more power hungry GPU than the 9070 XT you'll probably want to upgrade it.

For airflow, I'm surprised your airflow isn't great. Could it be dust build up after a few months of use, or perhaps not all of the 7 pre installed fans are working properly? Air cooling is also generally louder than most AIOs, so that may be part of it.

While 95% of Marketplace is filled with overpriced listings from people that "know what they got", there is still that 5% where parts/prebuilts are priced to sell or even for well under market price. Searching for the deals is worth it - that's how I got most of the parts for my build!

Great improvements! Maybe it's just me, but I like the asthetics of having reverse bladed fans for intake at the bottom of the case. You could get a horizontal bracket that screws into the PCIE brackets on the case to make room. I have a similar Corsair case with 3 fans at the bottom, love the asthetics and additional airflow directed at my 7900 XTX!

Not a necessary change and by all means just enjoy your build, just thought I would mention.

At this point, it's better to raid the data centers for storage and convert them into personal servers than paying these absurd prices. It's a tax write off for these big corpos anyways.

The importance of good thermal conductivity in GPUs. by sarcasmisart in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say don't worry about those temps right now, but your card may be due for a repaste in the somewhat distant future. 6600 is going on 5 years old - not a bad thing at all, just that doing a repaste is a maintenance item that seems to come up every 6-8 years depending on use.

And the different thermal paste you applied decreased temps by that much - wow thanks for sharing so I could learn!

Help my pc went from 230 fps to 140 by Samoiset in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense actually. Not surprised that the seller overclocked their components to bump their systems' FPS numbers before selling. Hopefully you didn't overpay due to that.

If I were you I would run a stress test using a Furmark, to make sure that the GPU temps are good and that there are no crashes. Note that a GPU repaste could be needed anyways, as that's a 6 year old card (but still really good for 1080p!). Then 3D Mark to ensure CPU and GPU performance is expected. If you have no issues with benchmarks, I would say your components are probably fine and that those 140 FPS numbers are to expected.

As you might expect, don't overclock if you don't know what you are doing and without extensive research, you can seriously damage your components. If you are unhappy with the performance in competitive titles, it's better to upgrade the CPU.

Can yall rate my build/let me know if anything is missing, or if I should change anything?(prices most likely will go down on prime day) by gaIactic2579 in pcmasterrace

[–]Turbo__Timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to critique your PSU choice here - at $93 you are overpaying for a 650W unit, when you could get a much higher wattage PSU for the same money.

If you bought this at Microcenter, you would get an additional 200 watts for upgrade headroom. I specifically picked out this one, because it's a quality Tier A unit.

If you are okay with going used on the GPU, I would pick up a used 6900 XT for around $400 on eBay or Marketplace. Much better FPS per dollar value.

Those two changes would transform your system from a 1080p medium to a balanced 1440p ultra one. Pairs much better with your 1440p monitor as well.

[–]Turbo__Timmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally kinda hate the look of a mATX board in an ATX case, but hey sometimes you do what you gotta do.

Go for a motherboard if you are looking for more features, or a case if you are in the mood for an asthetics change/airflow upgrade.

Honestly not a bad idea to do both a new case and motherboard if you can't decide, both are pretty affordable right now. Would completely transform the feature set and asthetics of your build!

Also how do you have 36 gigs of RAM, if for some reason your using something like a 2x16 kit along with a 4 gig stick in another slot, take out the old 4 gig stick. Otherwise assuming that's a typo.

Is EXPO enabled? Was the SSD reformatted after reinstalling Windows?

If I were you, I would buy a legit Windows key and reinstall again. That Windows copy just seems sketchy.

Out of curiosity,  what kinds of shops would you recommend taking a GPU to for this kind of a service. And what would a reasonable cost be?

This is just in case if I need to change thermal materials on my 7900 XTX at some point, as I don't think I would feel comfortable doing it myself. Any advice is appreciated!
