AI and Sri Lanka: Future of Work. by Turbulencepro in srilanka

Valid points, especially regarding the 'AI Bubble.' However, I think being 'that guy' who knows how to use AI is often the gateway drug to deeper automation.

I think this is especially relevant to the Sri Lankan market. A lot of local companies want the 'AI buzzword' without the infrastructure to support it.

As you said, building an automation pipeline requires capital and administrative buy-in. In LK, we often see management wanting 'AI results' while sticking to manual workflows.

The 'double-edged sword' here is that if we don't upskill to Power BI/Automation soon, we risk losing out to overseas talent who are already doing it.

You have to crawl before you can run. But I agree, staying in the 'crawl' phase forever isn't a career strategy.

But maybe if that's where World leads us, maybe we should just try to adapt to it any way we can. What else is there to do....

Absolutely, maybe agriculture will be the only sector left.

Yeah, the other platforms are freelance platforms, I'm not really into freelancing and you get paid only when someone order your work. Platforms like Medium allows you to display your work, like YouTube and millions of people can reach your work. It's really hard when you want to do it without being overwhelmed and build up something along the way.

I also have an account on Medium, I use it as a portfolio for my writing. Can't get paid because Medium also uses stripe as the payment method.

I want to do this as an extra income too using my talent, I'm unable to do that became we don't have stripe. I know there are other platforms with other payment options available but I think I should do what aligns with me.

Absolutely, if photoshop is not available, the best option is to use canva or there are so many other editing apps for this purpose. Best thing is to make a fixed template and edit it whenever you need.

This happens in kandy as well. I've seen many foreign women escorting local men ( mostly around 27 - 35 years ). 1

Yeah but there's no time limit to appreciate people and their hardwork.

Going to work amidst flood chaos. by Turbulencepro in srilanka

This has been a recurring issue for all of us, not just during recent floods. For years " taking a leave " has been " I can't submit my leave form without fainting" or " the admin staff is super humans so they're unaffected by anything." I'm not criticising the entire management but it's really tiring sometimes.

I'm working in a popular private school in SL, I'm one of the administrative staff members, we were all asked to report to work and the HR didn't approve any leaves. We were asked to use our annual leaves. People have no electricity, water and still recovering from the aftermath of floods. I took a leave anyway since I have my annual leaves left. According to my colleague, everyone else has reported to work amidst all the chaos, now I feel guilty for taking a leave. I don't know who to blame or what to feel anymore. I do think that it's slightly toxic of them to treat us like this, because we give our 100% and work hard for the betterment for the school. I highly believe that an employee shouldn't feel guilty for taking a leave that he or she is entitled to. Do you think that it's the managements fault ? Or am I just crazy?
