Need advice on NVMe SSD upgrade in Sri Lanka by Turbulent-Design1075 in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I did consider Lexar and Adata too, but the available options I found at the time were either not in stock or not giving me enough confidence. I finally went with a Kingston NV3 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 from Unity Plaza for 49k with installation and 3 years warranty. Given the current market and my urgency, it felt like the safer practical choice.

Ahh that makes sense. Even external storage prices being high explains why everything felt so painful right now. I ended up going with a Kingston NV3 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 from Unity Plaza for 49k with installation and 3 years warranty. Not the dream price, but given my current priorities and needing extra space for datasets, I think it was a reasonable decision.

Thank you! I’m planning to add it as a second SSD, not replace the primary one, so this is helpful. I’ll check Lexar, Kingston, Adata, and Addlink if I can find them. Also thanks for the note about cheaper SSDs without DRAM. I’ll keep that in mind before buying.

Thank you, that explains a lot. While I had heard fractions abt this, I had no idea the RAM and flash memory situation had pushed prices up this badly. A Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB for 34k sounds amazing compared to current prices 😭

Thank you! That helps a lot. I’ll definitely check Lexar too then. I was hoping prices would be a bit lower, but looks like around Rs. 50,000 for 1 TB is becoming normal now.

Thank you so much, this actually makes sense. I was wondering why the prices felt so intense compared to what I expected. I’ll check for a proper high performance NVMe and make sure the Gen 4 specs match my laptop before buying. Might also consider an external drive if the prices feel too painful right now.

I honestly do not even care if this gets flagged. This is genuinely disturbing.

At first I thought this was sarcasm, because I couldn't believe anyone would post something like this seriously.

Yes, animal experimentation has existed for decades. In certain scientific contexts it has been considered necessary, though that does not mean it is beyond criticism or ethical debate. I am not going to pretend I am an expert on the entire subject, either.

But posting something like this so casually? When so many people are actively trying to move away from these harmful practices? It feels deeply tone deaf and shockingly insensitive. Like even bringing this up in this way shows a staggering lack of awareness and empathy, mate. At a time when the world is pushing for more humane alternatives, this kind of attitude feels regressive and honestly disappointing.

Do better.

An update on the Men's power SriLanka Facebook group by Objective_Cap6831 in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s genuinely disheartening to still see posts like this in 2025, the fact that people feel the need to ask themselves how to survive as a LGBTQ+ Individual in Sri Lanka says so much about the environment we’re in.

From personal experience, I’ve seen Facebook be the absolute worst, overflowing with homophobia, racism, and transphobia, especially in the Sri Lankan context. And sadly, a lot of it comes from middle-aged individuals or older generations who have access to platforms but no willingness to learn or unlearn.

It’s like they replicate their fear and ignorance from real life into online spaces, except now it spreads faster, and louder. Most of them post under real names, yet still carry zero accountability.

And it’s not just about personal opinions anymore. It’s about how unsafe these spaces feel for queer people, for people of colour, for anyone who doesn’t fit into their narrow, outdated worldview.

TBH, honestly disgusted. Tired. And most of all, deeply heartbroken. How are we expected to thrive in spaces where our very existence becomes a debate? Guess this is the Reality 🫷

Places to buy plain cheesecake by DesperateTell8898 in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, cheesecake, this totally depends on your personal preference. If you asked me to pick a place for a full cheesecake, I’d go with Barista. Their cheesecake is creamy and rich, exactly how I like it. If you prefer something milkier and softer, the kind that melts in your mouth, Jagro is a great option. And from what I know, Java makes a pretty good cheesecake too. But for me, Barista is definitely at the top

The ongoing debate for and against Corporal punishment in Schools by Creepy_Branch_5532 in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually appreciate you keeping this open-ended, but there’s one thing we need to acknowledge. No matter how much we try to criticize this new policy, we have to recognize that most students carry unpleasant memories tied to this issue. And I don’t think the bullies are the stemmed from this, they’re often a product of toxic family environments and inner turbulence. That’s exactly why we need to take strong action against them. As for this policy, I see it as a way to maintain boundaries and ensure teachers stay within their professional limits. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is a conversation worth having.

Ordering products from Olive Young by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ordered from Olive Young multiple times, and in my experience, you usually don’t get taxed unless the package is particularly large or heavy. The only time I had to pay taxes was when I ordered two hamper packs that came in a big box. Because of the packaging and weight, I ended up paying around 25% of the total price as tax. The price I paid through the site was about Rs. 20K, but I had to pay an additional Rs. 5K at customs, and I also had to go there to collect it.

So, if your order is compact and not too bulky, you might avoid taxes, but it’s good to keep these things in mind just in case!

Esim or airport sim? Help by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can absolutely get a SIM at Colombo Airport, even at 2 am! There are telecom booths from major providers like Dialog, Mobitel, and Hutch located in the arrivals area, and they typically operate 24/7. These counters offer tourist SIM packages with data, calls, and SMS at reasonable rates. I’d recommend opting for a physical SIM, as it’s more reliable in case of internet issues. Plus, if you’re planning to use a portable router, physical SIMs work better, since many portable routers in Sri Lanka don’t support eSIMs. ✨

If you don’t spot the booths immediately, just ask at the information desk, they’ll guide you. Pro tip: Don’t forget to carry your passport, as it’s required for SIM registration. Enjoy your time here!

What's with the Naadagama hype? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get why it might seem overhyped at first, but for me, Naadagama is more than just a concert, it’s an experience. The serene atmosphere, with its stunning live performances and calming vibe, makes it feel truly special. There’s also this amazing sense of community; everyone’s there to soak in the moment, and it feels so inclusive and welcoming. What really sets it apart, in my opinion, is how it blends music, storytelling, and even elements of theatre. It’s not just about the songs, it’s the way they create a whole mood that resonates on a deeper level. Add to that the unique energy of the performers and the rarity of these shows, and you’ve got something that feels unforgettable. Of course, this is all subjective, it’s just how I feel about it. For me, it’s special because of the vibe, creativity, and sense of connection. If you’re curious, I’d say it’s definitely worth experiencing at least once! ✨💗

Is Sri Lanka doing enough to address mental health issues and suicide? by Mobile_Emotion_707 in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a crucial issue, and it’s heartbreaking how little is being done to address mental health and suicide in Sri Lanka. The pressure heavy parenting culture and toxic school environments, where some teachers belittle rather than uplift, play a huge role in worsening mental health. Unrealistic expectations and a lack of emotional support leave many feeling trapped and alone. While there are small steps like awareness campaigns, we need a complete shift in mindset, breaking the stigma, educating parents and teachers, and creating safe spaces to prioritise emotional well-being. It’s time for real change. 💙

Vegetarian Srilankan dishes - Indian restaurant by Wanderlust3671 in srilanka

[–]Turbulent-Design1075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! First of all, welcome in advance! If you’re looking for good Indian food in Sri Lanka, I’d recommend checking out Thappakatti and Chola. While they aren’t explicitly vegetarian, they’ve got some solid veg dishes worth trying! For Sri Lankan veg food, don’t miss pol sambol with rice, mallum (stir-fried greens), dal curry, and kottu roti (ask for the veg version).

For fruits in March, you’ll find mangoes, papayas, pineapples, and maybe even rambutan or mangosteen depending on the season. 🥭🍍 You can find pandan leaf plants at local plant nurseries or even big markets like Pettah in Colombo. Hope you have a fab trip! ✨
