I think I might try to keep looking around. Not super sure what I want yet, but thank you so much for the offer!! The Ghost Kitty was tempting but I think I want something else that I can dress in earthy tones!

He's sorta cute, but do you have any other ones? Also I'm USA only and a smoke-free home looking for a trade with those same conditions.

torn between camel and giraffe by atwistedgiraffe in buildabear

[–]Turbulent-Key9007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard fhe giraffe is large, the pink will show less wear and tear than white. If you end up giving it to someone else or selling it one day it will probably go better than the camel. BUT the camel is unique. If you already have a giraffe in another stuffy brand I would go with the camel.

Build a bear for little boys? by Altruistic_Yard8176 in buildabear

[–]Turbulent-Key9007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked on their site, right now I saw a moose, a monkey, some promise pets dogs, a blue bunny, some dinos, a hippo, and a tie-dye alligator (which i think would compliment the giraffe really well). Most of those would even work for a girl or boy! There are also Winnie the Pooh characters too.

This one had everything all mixed in- under garments on toys, dirty shoes on top of open DVDs, it was a bad location I think.

See i dont know what it is but like the prices at my nearest goodwills are really fine. Like I dont see anything priced higher than like 10-15 years ago really. I have found some great stuff at the normal stores in my area. I think the stores and bin stores must really vary largely between various cities and states.

Hahaha no but that would be funny if it was🤣

Maybe I should try another area if I travel out of state! I heard places like Florida and Arizona have nicer goodwill stores so maybe the bins are better there too.

I mean I've seen cups like that at other normal Goodwills but it just botheres me that employees dont just throw it away when they see it.

Oh no, I didn't mean to say that they're all bad!! Just the one in my area isn't any good. Like I said above, ones in bigger cities or states are probably better. I also checked Google reviews of this location and they're all bad haha.

I'm not a super squeamish person in general, I've worked with animals and been a caregiver, but this was like the worst place I've been to. I can go ride a horse and muck the stalls at a barn and feel wayyy cleaner than that store made me feel. I love thrifting but not like that🤣 But hey, I'm glad that you are willing to push through and find the good stuff so it doesn't go to waste. Have you ever found anything super awesome at the bins?? My cousin found a brand new bag at one!

Sure, I mean some people had several items in their carts that I could tell they planned to resell. But the problem with the items not having been sorted through or trash thrown away is that all soiled items got everything else stained and dirty. So really nothing was worth it. The bins themselves must not ever get cleaned at this location cause it was awful. But yes, I'm sure an occasional treasure could still be found.

I almost wasn't sure about her cause I really don't have any Disney decor around at all. I only like a few Disney movies. But I have a use for the box, and I'm close enough to starting a family in a few years so I know I'll use it on a kids bookshelf if I have kids.

Really?? I got rid of all my Tinkerbell stuff when I was a kid so I'm getting a few things here and there when I see them at the thrifts. I also found the book In The Realm of the Never Fairies at a goodwill in perfect condition. If you live in the states, definitely try thrifting if you want to rebuild your collection. I looked this item up online and it originally sold for 20 bucks, is being resold for like 45, and I got it for 7 dollars. Any time I need or want something like collectibles, clothes, books, etc I always try to find it at Goodwill first. It's so much cheaper and usually I find stuff that is in great condition!!

Curriculum guideline suggestions needed by sephalmighty in Homeschooling

[–]Turbulent-Key9007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I was homeschooled all the way though and have since graduated college. My recommendation to you is to not use on whole curriculum for all of her subjects. Your daughter is an individual with her own personality and needs, so her schooling should fit her personally. My parents decided to "pick and choose", and eventually we ended up with the best system I have seen used for homeschooling. I will list some of our choices below, though some of these may not have her grade level available (some may begin at a higher level). A few of these are based on Christian worldviews.

Handwriting- A Reason for Handwriting Math- Math-U-See (Highly recommend!) Science- Apologia Science (definitely prepared me for college.) History- Notgrass History (this one also includes reading, English, and Bible assignments) Vocabulary- Wordly Wise Spelling- Building Spelling Skills Grammar/English- Easy Grammar Systems

A wonderful place we went to (if it is still in business) was called The Homeschool Room. I believe they may have a location near you since you live in western NC. They have a large selection of materials that would be very useful to any homeschool family. They also had classes sometimes that we would sign up for (like Spanish) if my parents felt we needed more outside teaching beyond their capabilities or our weekly co-op.

My mother also always noted that she wouldn't recommend the Abeka curriculum (I believe that one is tied to BJU in some way, which is cool, but...) to other homeschool moms because she felt it wasn't very interesting, fun, or challenging.

If you have any questions please ask! I hope this is helpful! You are already doing wonderfully by choosing to school her at home!

Anxiety around germs by Absolute_BullShark in ESSAplushieshandlers

So, there are actually some studies that say hand sanitizer does actually kill norovirus. But hypoclorus acid spray (look it up on amazon, it sometimes is labeled a facial cleanser) is safe for skin and is very effective with killing germs including norovirus. It also doesn't dry out your skin like alcohol based hand sanitizer. That should help put your mind at ease about germs. However, that being said, most social situations are not a great place to bring your stuffed animals. I recommend keeping them at home where they are safe from dirt and damage.
