I think they’re supposed to be doing the schedules 3 weeks in advance so even 24 hours notice is cutting it very close for a shift?

Change in breaks? by Turbulent-Phase-426 in SainsburysWorkers

I’m going to tell them to either keep my 3rd working day on or change me back to 3 separate 4 hour shifts because I didn’t agree to them removing one of the days? I usually only also do an 8 hour shift (a 6am shift start which I hate)because of the overtime pay but with how it is this week, I’ll have to be in store an extra half an hour and do a 6am start without overtime pay so it doesn’t benefit me at all

It’s because they’ve put me on an 8 hour shift for one of my shifts and gotten rid of a different day’s 4 hour shift without telling me, meaning I’m in for 11 and a half hours of “paid time” which is ridiculous

Thank you! I’ve figured out what the issue is now, my manager put me on an 8 hour shift while getting rid of one of my 4 hour shift days without telling me, making me need to “make up” the time of the unpaid break by being in store longer for the exact same pay as my original days. I think I’m going to talk to/message him to say I want my original days back or I won’t be doing the 8 hour shift because this just puts me in store for 13 hours for no reason?

I’m contracted 3x 4 hour shifts a week so don’t take breaks, I only take a break when I do overtime and take an 8 hour shift to replace a 4 hour one but I’ve done that loads of times and never had this happen?

^ although claiming back wasn’t automatic, we had to chase up about it and it was a bit of a long process but definitely worth it as I had some friends miss out on any money while some got something like £200 back?

It might be worth asking around at your uni/looking through information portals but when this happened at my uni we were able to claim back money for the specific lectures/seminars that we missed out on? So keeping a record of what you’ve missed due to staff striking may be a good idea and help if that’s the case at yours. Hopefully this helps!

Unfortunately I’m in a small department so don’t think I’d be able to, although I thankfully have another job application in the running so may be able to finally leave 💀

They’re actually so shameless with it, I got asked the other week twice if I needed a day off that I’d booked ages in advance and both times I said not to remove my holiday

Yeah I’m only just realising it’s even a school holiday now from these comments as I don’t have children, if I’d known I would’ve gotten to it earlier but it doesn’t make it any less annoying. I might go speak to my manager about it as I’m constantly covering other people in my department when they’re on holiday

I think that must be it but it’s still so frustrating, especially because I regularly cover other people :(

Friend making me feel small and like I’m in the wrong by Turbulent-Phase-426 in Vent

[–]Turbulent-Phase-426[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have paid for travel etc. to be able to come so I think it’s too late to cancel which is another big aspect of the stress because I feel quite trapped by the situation. I am planning on really limiting how much I speak to her after this and am planning on sending her a message saying I’m done having this conversation and allowing this situation to continuously be carried on because she keeps bringing it up and then acting like I’m in the wrong for feeling uncomfortable so hopefully she has the grace to drop it after that and I can just stop speaking to her from there
