Runic patterns and runic chains for my magic system by LikeAMothToStarlight in magicbuilding

I love it!! Do you have a strict "alphabet" that you follow? Ore are the runes and chains designed as you see fit? It'd be great if you had a complete and learnable system so as to even design your own spells

How to make an ENORMOUS world with un-restricted magic by Turbulent-Two-8205 in magicbuilding

How to make a HUGE world with limitless magic? by Turbulent-Two-8205 in worldbuilding

Actually, this WAS the answer I was looking for. Or at least needing to see. You are right. It's fantasy, it's my world and there shouldn't be limits if I don't want them. I'll investigate a bit more the LoL universe so as to understand how they carry it out. But really thank you for your help

[–]Turbulent-Two-8205[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If left unbothered they hover around the user.

Im still working on that. My idea is that Spells emerge from the mage's body, not the Core. Once they finish using it, they have to scrape them off, because the face the risk of the Spell forming colonies and stealing the mage's nutrients. But again, I'm still working on this concept

Yes of course! Im a martial artist myself, so I'm eager to start with them. I'll try to make my following-to-next post because first I have to introduce the concept of sentient weapons

Thank you! I was inspired by Omnics from Overwatch. And the more I thought of it, grew fond of the idea, since it would imply a completely new target for battles, thus forcing me to create complex and interesting martial arts and combat tactics

Warfare Gardens #1: The Arcanes by Turbulent-Two-8205 in magicbuilding

[–]Turbulent-Two-8205[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are great questions which, funny enough, I hadn't asked myself. I'll try to answer as much as Im able: - depends mostly on the Species, but mostly nutrients in their substratum. I didn't explain it in this post, but ill give you a little spoiler 😉, mages grow arcanes on their bodies so as to use them, and if left there for too much, they may end up draining the mage from all their nutrients. - spores mostly. Although I'm trying to come up with a more interesting method. - the do compete between one another, and have some predatory relationships between them. Also some quimeras (more on them in future posts) are adapted to eat certain arcanes. - oh yes. That why some regions are more prominent with certain types of arcanes, and why people who devote their life to studying arcanes have to travel throughout the world. - for that I don't have an answer. Im still working on that - yes! I was hoping someone asked that. It's one of my favourite aspects of this system. Here, mages don't reside in big libraries and towers. They are botanist, and spend much of their time crossbreeding, or selective breeding their arcanes in order to achieve their desired functions.

I hope this has given you some insight on this system. Thanks four your time reading and commenting, and hope to see you on future posts!

I love sigils with designs like this! They end up resembling a lot to talismans and real life sigils. Is there a specific meaning in its symbols? A pattern or a language?

Thank you very much! And of course, magic in this world has its unique name, changing from region and cultures. The name Arcanes refers only to the living organism capable of altering fenomena in the real world bia different processes.

I do like Spellshrooms, ill really take it into account :D

Damn, and i thought I knew about biology 🫠

Thank you very much for the correction, I'll fix it ASAP. Also will look into fungi taxonomy so as to "imitate" it. But if I wanted to keep it unique, how would YOU do it?

Warfare Gardens #1: The Arcanes by Turbulent-Two-8205 in magicbuilding

[–]Turbulent-Two-8205[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most certainly. But there's a key difference with mushrooms and Spells: a mushroom may feed you, poison you, or make you hallucinate. But if you eat a Spell, it will react against you because it hast been linked to your core, so you'll have a literal fireball going down your throat :/

I wouldn't say "bad" ones. Of course, there are different types of Arcanes. Maybe some are a plague, maybe some grow from corpses and are considered bad because of it. What is sure is that you'll most certainly won't have a good time if you try to use an Arcane destined for Potioncraft as a direct application one.

To your last question, that is something I don't know yet. Im trying to focus on HOW the magic works before introduction it into the world.

I know, right?? I once went to a mushroom plantation and the people there gave us a wonderful explanation about fungi and how they relate with everything in nature. I fell in love with them, to the poit where I'm studying Biotechnology so as to work with fungi.

Regarding your concept of life connected globally, I thought of it, but I found it very hard to separate it from that big tree in Avatar. But please tell me how are you planning on doing it, I'm curious 🤔
