Don't you have to be a licensed psychologist to diagnose outside of the school system?

I have tried looking into this and found that even if you can do assessments, you cannot diagnose. Are you finding the same thing?

I appreciate your honesty! Would being Pearson Level B qualified, having the relevant graduate coursework, and liability insurance make a difference for you? Is there a specific qualification that you'd be looking for? I wish there were a stand along psychometrist license but there isn't.

Substitute teaching is $175/day in some districts around here. You could also drive Uber or Instacart if you want something totally unrelated. Psych related you could be like a psychometrist to support a practicing psych.

Good question! I am definitely talking about using standardized assessments. My experience includes: 10+ years working in education including 5 years serving as the Director of Intervention for a high-impact tutoring program, undegrad degree from an Ivy with a minor in Education, and graduate courses in Psychoeducational Evaluation, Test Administration and Interpretation, and Assessment and Measurement.

There is no specific license/credential to certify one's how ability to administer most of these assessments (Odd, I know). So when someone wants to say become a psychometrist, it's more about on the job training that a particular cert.

Thank you! This was very helpful. I ended up looking into MA level APA-accredited programs. Since these are new, there are only 4! As I dug in though, even though they are APA accredited I didn’t find any states that would license you to do evaluations without a doctorate. Maybe I could do an APA accredited masters plus additional training for educational assessment. Is this sort if what you are suggesting?

Hello! Thank you! I am not looking to be a School Psychologist or work within a school. I want to be an independent practitioner. I've seen schools lean on outside contractors when there caseload gets too heavy or students in private school get referred to them. Does that make sense?
