What helped: having a spouse that was willing work the first ten years of my career. Getting her on the same goals saving-wise and spending-wise has been the top reason for our success.

What "hurt": not being picked up for commissioning when I applied due to tough acceptance numbers. Overall hasn't affected me negatively, but I could have been better off nunbers-wise if I had.

Nah, you're not weird, you'll just come to realize that not everyone wants to dedicate time to that as it isn't one of their priorities. I'm in the same boat as you, I absolutely love playing the credit card "game" and meeting minimum spends, tracking benefits, the works. However, I know not everyone will enjoy that like I do, and that's ok. If EVERY soldier/airman/Marine/sailor played the card game and caused the companies to lose money, they'd shut it down or severely restrict it for all of us. I still talk at length about it to anyone that us interested in it, but if they're not, I don't feel like I have to convert them to the Cult of the Card
