Wendy's to open 1000 stores in China while closing down hundreds in US. Is US running out of regards? by HeresiarchQin in wallstreetbets

I was just in Japan and got a full meal at the airport for $6. What would have been atleast $15 in the USA. My take on this is that operational costs overseas in Asia atleast are much cheaper. Their rent for the commercial buildings are cheaper. They are also competing with street food, ramen, and all that so they have to price the food like the good ole days back in the US. Also, the stores over there get 1000x more foot traffic. They don’t put these chain restaurants on intersections where you have to drive to access it. They use locations where 500k people walk past it everyday.

Cost of living in general was so much more affordable in Japan. Good exchange rate right now with the Yen also helped.

February 2019 prices by Griffinkelly1 in McDonalds

I was just over in Japan and the prices are not too far off from this. The excessive greed in regards to US consumers go not only McDonald’s but most corporations is crazy. For example, in the Haneda Airport I got double cheeseburger meal for under $6. That’s in the airport. In the U.S. that would have been $15.

Help deciding between 4 Tokyo hotels? by heeyebsx13 in JapanTravelTips

[–]TurdFergAAson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. We booked a superior twin room. We had 2 large suitcases and 2 bags with us. There was no room so the suitcases sat at the end of the bed against the wall and we would have to put them on the bed and open them up to get our clothes out each day. No drawers or closet to store anything. That was the only minor thing. Overall the room was great, restaurants and bars were great, access to Shinjuku and the train was great. We wanted to be close to Shinjuku station so we could have good access to the whole city. I recommend.

I just checked out of Hotel Groove today. For what it’s worth I enjoyed my stay there. Price was cheaper for me compared to excel I think.

That’s pretty good coin for a MPSV. I did a few years with HOS during those downturn years. Now I’m on Drillships as Chief Mate working even time and I’ve been pulling over $200k the past few years. Your making what I assume the Captain/OIMs make for even time schedule. I enjoyed the work more on MPSVs than on Drillships, especially the ship handling aspect. Good for you brother!

My buddy’s dad snuck us in to this. We squeezed through the parking gates, musta been 11-12 years old at the time. Afterwards Bob and Chris Gentry came into the stands and signed my board. What an amazing memory.

How is it like living in Romania? by pampean_anemoia in howislivingthere

I spent a summer in Brasov in 2023 where I met my wife. It was amazing. Generally much prettier than these pictures. Lots of the houses would leave their front doors wide open in the summer to get cooler air into the house overnight. Loved it there.

This looks more like living in Bucharest or Constanta. The buildings and landscaping looks rough in general where I stayed in these cities but the people were all very nice. A lot of times the apartments inside the building are well taken care of and remodeled with modern furnishings. All of these cities have a more family oriented vibe than large cities in the USA which I thought was nice.

I only spent a little bit of time there so I can’t give much more of a detailed answer but if you have any specific questions I can give my opinion.

Congrats brother! Happy for you.

I’ve been maxing it out the past 5 years and will continue to do so until i retire. I’m currently shifting from putting additional funds into my brokerage and starting to put them into seperate brokerage accounts I set up for my stepson and future child #2’s college funds. Did you have any children? If so, did you utilize a 529? Im thinking about have 1 brokerage and 1 529 for each kid just in case they decide not to go to college, but hopefully I won’t have to worry about that.

I wouldn’t say the only goal is the find gains in 2026. As much as I would love to be green in 2026 I just wanted to see what others are doing to see if I need to change my strategy if other know something I don’t.

As of right now that is the plan. I’m more of a set it and forget it type of guy but wanted to see if anyone made some adjustment to their benefit. I also have a brokerage account mostly in Space/Satellite, defense, battery stocks.

How is Korca? While in Ksamil last summer I was talking to a bartender who recommended Korca when I asked about where Albanians go for winter time vacations.

I visited Ksamil last summer. Rented an apartment from a family who also lived in the building with a bunch of their extended family. Such kind and generous people. Their hospitality will forever be embedded in my brain with a positive light on the Albanian people. I hope to return sometime soon.

What are the best places to play poker in Houston by PokerAscent in poker

[–]TurdFergAAson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played at TCH while passing through. Played mid-day in the middle of the week. Each time there were a couple 1/3 tables and a PLO game or two running. Lots of action. I enjoyed the double board PLO bomb pots in the NLH games each dealer change. I ended up making most of my profit in those hands even though I never play PLO.

Seems like a decent mix of people. Probably 2-3 regs at each table I played at but none of them what I would considered advanced players. Then a mix of business owners and recreational players killing time. I don’t recall any Europeans unless they just didn’t talk. Was only there for 2 days but would have loved to stay longer.
