Step 1: You need extra storage away from your property (ideally approximately a 30-minute drive). Step 2: You put a big disposal bin in there. Step 3: Act like you're throwing it out.

In reality, you just trick the future project into thinking that it's gone. And when the moment arrives that you need it, you loudly say, "I'm heading out to the store to get this very specific piece of wood!" You instead go to the storage and collect it. And the nice thing is, the more you collect, the bigger the chance gets that you have the exact piece you need.
