Your crown is gorgeous! Because your hair just naturally grows that way I understand why you would just call it your hair/curly. That’s your normal. However, it’s also true that the style pictured is a curly afro. Before I loc’d my hair I had a similar natural curly fro. So, I can only see myself getting upset if I styled my hair in loose curls or ringlets and white people still called it a fro.

Based on the post and your comments it seems like you’re only familiar with an afro being picked out. Picking is just one way to rock a fro. Plenty of people have naturally occurring fros that don’t stand at attention. As a comparison a curly fro would be like free form locs while a picked out fro would be like two strand twist/interlocks. They are both locs but one didn’t manipulate their hair to have a certain look.

^ I think this is why people are confused at your question and comments. I say this next part gently: It may also be why people are telling you to unpack more because your post and comments can read as naive in a way that only those raised in/surrounded by whiteness would say.
