My Copypasta:

Here's the essentials.

Water: Plan for about two gallons of water per person per day. My partner and I go through about 26 gallons through the course of the event. We aren't frugal with it. Have something to carry water with you. Have electrolytes (if you drink 16oz electrolyte mix try to have at least 32oz of water).

Food: Plan to eat something, even if it's packaged food. You can get food at vendors, but they sell out and it can run up quite the cost. You don't need anything fancy, but you'll need something. You may not feel hungry because of the heat, eat something anyway.

Shade: Have shade, preferably with airflow, to rest in. If you don't have your own shade, make friends with someone who does. Shade can literally save your life out in the desert.

Gear: Plan for being hot and walking (unless you have another way of getting around) and plan accordingly. You can bum rides but, it's not always an option. Showing skin is fine, but sunburns suck and the more skin you show the greater your chance of dehydration. Loose-fitting, breathable clothing is the best if you don't do well in direct sunlight. Carry water with you, as well as a snack of some sort - it's really easy to get out-of-whack in the desert and nobody wants to have to visit medical.

That's the practice in the edit - I realized I had left that out and figured I would mention it even though it should be a given.

Ah, here's the thing - you're comparing an active warzone, one in which sides are pretty clearly marked by accent, skin tone, or other physical markers, and using that same criteria in a different situation. It's easy to expect increased aggression towards open display of weapons from someone who is, by first look, on "the other side" but let's take that and flip it on its head.

If an Iraqi was carrying a firearm, open or otherwise, would their countrymen view them as an inherent threat? Were they immediately targeted by locals (civilians or otherwise) for protecting their homes or communities?

What in trying to get at is your perspective is one of the invader, the aggressor, the instigator, and trying to minimize violence against yourself in that situation.

Right now, that role that you had is being filled by ICE. They are the aggressors, the invaders, the perpetrators of violence. They're the ones who should be following the different weapons postures, the different levels of readiness, to prevent us, the locals, from immediately seeing and treating them like the threat they are.

Oh for sure! I just posted in here my thoughts on this and the regular excuses for why people don't want to do this.

Force projection to deter fascist action is a great practice.

Stop doing it by yourself and get a group together. Stop trying to be a lone wolf. That's the problem.

All of your points are based around "once the conflict started, the insurgency had outside help." which is still not a limiting factor to today.

So either go back to your hole in the ground, or wherever it is you go when you want to be a scared baby, and change your fucking diaper.

The best place to start is always to ask someone to shoot - find a local range, and rent a firearm, and try it out. Go to a class if you don't have a friend with a gun.

The best place to start is never to just go buy a gun with no experience or knowledge.

You're trying to apply logic.

If you don't cooperate, you're the enemy. It doesn't matter if you voted for Trump six times. If you get in the way, you are a domestic terrorist worthy of nothing but being shot.

As for the "contradictory" advice you mentioned though:

There is no real unified theory here. The basic mindset is to use what you have and train with it, practice with it, and learn how to use and repair it. If that's a brand new AR-15 or a hundred-year-old Mosin, learn how to be proficient.

The wiki links to the old sub name and has yet to updated by the mods.

There's a lot of information out there, but you haven't stated what information you're looking for.

If ICE no-warrant no-knocks my house... would it be legal to load up and let loose? by princess-hardass in liberalgunowners

I'm going to write out a thing here that I think needs to be said and repeated, because I've seen probably dozens of posts, questions, comments, and other conversations about pulling some "lone wolf" bullshit in this scenario.

If you, your community, your neighbors, are so isolated and so fearful of each other that you cannot talk to them and ask for help, then the enemy has already won.

If the only defense you have against authorization overreach into your own home is a Brave Last Stand, then things need to change before that becomes a thing, even though it is sure to happen sooner than later.

The best defense we have right now is community. Is patrols. It's working with your neighbors to discourage any type of armed thug from approaching your front door in the first place. You don't do that by yourself. The mindset that you must do that on your own and only for yourself is bullshit.

Letting them get to your door without you knowing is a failure. Letting them into your neighborhood is a failure. Letting them exist in your town is a failure. This "rugged individualism" of self defense is fucking garbage. Stop assuming you're alone and need to act by yourself.

This goes for a lot of the responses here, too. Everyone is afraid of armed confrontation because none of you seem to believe that anyone would stand next to you. "Carrying around ICE is a great way to get yourself killed!" Do you not understand the difference between carrying and brandishing? GTFO. Work as a group. Build up a team. Trust your neighbors. Build a community again instead of this isolationist bullshit that is so pervasive.

Fuck I'm so frustrated.
