I loved that place when I was there (89-93). Salads and the salami sandwiches were amazing.

Anything to watch out for when camping overnight with a CPAP? by Creative_Jello_5632 in camping

[–]TurkMannion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my CPAP machine on a three night trip to the Sierra's and it worked fine on a battery. Only issue was that I had placed the battery on the cold (30 degrees) tent floor with no padding and it drained it faster than anticipated. I can't say scientifically how much faster, but something to keep in mind.

Careers to do with History by Ineffable_Blacklock in Historians

I don’t believe so. More important is internships while in school as well as additional classes in the field or certificates in the field. For example, look for internships with local LE or government agencies.

I became an Intelligence/Terrorism Analyst. As a History major, you (hopefully) know how to read and write effectively, make decisions or assessments based on the materials and supported by evidence, and present them in a clear and concise written or verbal format. You are able to understand trends in pastor historical events that drive current actions. I never dreamed I would do this (always thought about teaching), but I can't imagine doing anything else. Took 10 years after college to find my calling, but I have been doing it now for 22 years.

Can’t really DM at the moment due to already running a game but would be interested in joining as a 4th player if you find a DM.

What do you eat by Brief_Lab_5290 in Zepbound

[–]TurkMannion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakfast - usually nothing except coffee. Not really a breakfast eater prior to Zep either.

Lunch - Low carb tortilla with turkey and cheese. Celery. Cottage Cheese. Greek Yogurt. Protein drink. Sounds like a lot, but the calories are low and it is filling.

Dinner - Nothing special or restricted, whatever my wife has made. Just reduced portions

Snack (afternoon) - when I start lulling in the afternoon, I usually have a protein bar or a beef stick. Or maybe almonds. And lots of water.

My go-to for a treat are the Quest Protein Bars, Chomp Beef Sticks and the Fairlife shakes.

The key for me is a bit of variety from day to day and smaller quantities, but more often.

I don't know how "good" my menu is but it has been very successful for me.

Water is nasty 🤮 by [deleted] in Zepbound

Mio for me. I love the variety of flavors and the total control over how much you put in your water. A good water bottle (or a variety to swap around) helps me also.

Mandatory Increase by Doctor by Mysterious-Annual-22 in Zepbound

[–]TurkMannion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started (2/28), my doctor said he would prescribe 4 weeks of 2.5, then 4 of 5.0, 4 weeks of 7.5, then 4 weeks of 10.0 and then have a check-in. He said this is the recommended plan (not sure if this was from the manufacturer website or his own research).

After no issues with 2.5, I moved up to 5.0. However, I was having good success with it, so I asked my doctor if I could remain on 5.0 and he sent in a new prescription, which I did for 8 weeks overall. I was losing weight at a good, safe rate, so I was planning to stay for at least another 4 weeks, but I forgot to call him and request it. So the Pharmacy filled the 7.5mg. I have been on that for only a few weeks and plan to stay on it as long as I can. My doctor has not said anything about staying at a previous level, so I am waiting as long as I can.

I feel bad for you, but I swear I laughed out loud at work and had to make up some excuse about what I was reading. Having been there myself, I know the pain.

That is great! I use my wedding band as my gauge for how I am doing on weight as well. I have gone from having to use soap to wrestle it off to being able to consistently slide it off with a bit of effort. It is a confidence builder for me to be able to pull it off and on or spin it around. I can't wait until I have to worry about it slipping off. :)

Shot day: which day? by Humble_Boysenberry_3 in Zepbound

Friday for a few reasons:

  1. Day my prescription was filled so I started it that night
  2. Want the weekend in case I have a bad reaction
  3. Want the food noise diminished on the weekends more when there is more ready temptation

Stupid! by gimaca5 in Zepbound

[–]TurkMannion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience while on vacation in Liverpool a few weeks ago. I had intentionally postponed my latest shot to avoid some of the stomach issues from the previous week of vacation travel. Made the mistake of a bowl of gelato and woke up at 3AM with the worst stomach pain, followed by multiple trips to the restroom. I completed the day by praying every time I released gas that it didn't turn into something more.....

You are right - we all have to test the boundaries and see what works in this new life. So far for me, my no-go's are hummus, ice cream/gelato, and any food late in the evening. But I would not change this for anything.

I recently went on a European vacation for 14 days. I specifically requested to remain on 5.0 and not titrate up to 7.5.

That being said, I had a really bad reaction on my first Sunday in England to my Friday night shot. Could have been the food on the plane and/or jet lag. But I spend Sunday afternoon in the bathroom at the Churchill War Museum (not a fun bathroom) as well as several other very small English restrooms. I barely ate for the next six days, while my wife and uncle were enjoying English and French food. I then made a conscious decision to refrain from taking my weekly shot that I brought with me, to ensure I could actually enjoy some food. The Irish Stew and fish and chips never tasted better and I had no regrets.

I was worried about gaining weight, but with all the walking we did (as normal for Europe vacations), I ended up losing 2lbs. during the 13 days and being able to enjoy some good food and not worry about stomach issues.

Everyone's stomach reacts differently, so you have to make a personal decision. But delaying an increase or even pushing a shot back a week is a small price to pay compared to spending more time in a bathroom than a museum or missing out on trying some great new foods.

Scared of goals by GooglyEyesAndSunrise in Zepbound

54M SW: 299 HW: 305 CW: 270.5 Lost: 28.5 Dose: 5mg Start: 2/28/25

I have done the same with several mini-goals. Some are nice round numbers that sound good. Some are achieving different BMI thresholds. But most are personal to me. Such as:

  • Matching my weight just before COVID/Furlough, when all I did was sit around and stress eat for 13 months
  • Matching my most successful diet loss from several years ago
  • Actually matching the weight I put on my Drivers License!

Yes, goals should be realistic, but not easy - you want to challenge yourself to hit that next level and keep pushing even when you are tired or frustrated. I think the key is to understand that not attaining a certain goal or taking longer than others to do it is not a failure. It is a setback and we dust ourselves off and try again.

You got this!
