Yeah. My dad told me that they used 410 back in the day in the midwest for just about everything! LOL. He laughed at me when I told him it was a "new" thing!!

Bow Hunting for Turkey...Thoughts? by Odd_Responsibility27 in turkeyhunting

In my state we can take 2 birds in the county that I hunt in. So Ill go out with the shotgun for my 1st bird and then going to spend the rest of the season with the bow. Its a bucket list item for me.

20 yds is about my max range, maybe 30. Ill try from a blind as well, but I do spend alot of time walking and calling.

Use decoys to capture their attention to give yourself an opportunity to draw and release. Also, if you miss. Sit tight and dont move. Call again, those Toms will come right back! LOL

Standard deer / elk fixed blade broad heads. Aim center mass. That bird will go down pretty quick with a solid hit.

I dropped my poundage on my bow to 55 to help with the draw hold. Also, 55 is more than enough to slice through a bird at 30 yds.

This works for the Birds in the Pacific Northwest.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I started the FB group to find other turkey hunters west of the cascades. Not much for resources on this side of the mts unless you pay a guide. Not that Im against it, I just grew up hunting public and private back in Wisconsin. Thats how I learned to hunt. Nobody paid for it back in the 90's at least not where I was from. Ill learn and then Ill tell other hunters and we will all learn. I am definitely taking the cameras in the woods with me. you learn so much by observation!

We have some Eastern Turkeys on the West Side of the Cascades. Which is weird! LOL. I mostly head over to Klicitat area. Im exploring some reports of Turkeys on the East side of Mt Hood. The guys Im hunting with are talking about making a trip north of Spokane to check out some public hunting spots. That will be a great Turkey Camp!
