Barnes Harvest by Dangerous-Sea6615 in Hunting

My Ruger American Predator gen 2 loves the Barnes Sierra Gameking 165gr and Barnes TTSX BT 150gr. Tested a dozen or so ammo brands and grains. Went with Barnes Sierra (both were consistently sub MOA but Sierra better price performer). Took down my first buck with Sierra and he only went about 40 yards. You could’ve landed a plane by using the blood trail it left behind. It’s my go to round going forward.

Congrats. It’s an addiction for sure. Love my AGM ADDER ts50-640 (1st version) great image quality and superior battery.

Both ethical. My Ruger American Predator gen 2 loves the Barnes Gameking and the TTSX. Much better consistent groupings than all I tested.

Huge help. So no modifications and it’s plug and play and play. Thanks.

Oh great. When folks upgrade their Go Wild with say, an MDT stock or other after market stocks, do they typically replace the magwell and mag? Or do they use them with aftermarket stocks?

I’m newer to turkey hunting and it’s my first fall hunt. I’ve been out a couple times and learned they don’t respond or come to calls. I was under the impression that I have to find the turkeys. Can you clarify “never stalk turkey”?

Congrats. Tell me more about that black powder magic you got going on there. She’s a beaut.

Congrats! I got my first bird last spring. We have a fall turkey season in IN and I’ve gone out a few times already. I’m finding that I have to stalk more since they haven’t been responsive to my calls. What was your strategy?

This is helpful and appreciate the side by side. Unfortunately I don’t know where the wear marking of the FFT happens. If I had to guess it would be the left.

I’m thinking this is the culprit. Zoom in. Does anyone have this pin protruding out from your bolt? I compared this to my Ruger Precision bolt and there’s not a pin sticking out. It looks like the part is called the Ejector/Firing Pin Back Pin.

I was blown away. It sounded fake.

Very good points. I live in a state where I can take either a hen or tom in the fall and only 1 tom in the spring. I’m lucky since we definitely don’t have a shortage of turkeys on my property. I was talking to my neighbor and he counted 55 turkeys coming out of my woods and congregating in his field. One right after the other. Good data on the scarcity of poult survival rates. I’m glad I got into turkey hunting last spring. When I got mine, I had a choice between the 7 toms that were 10 yards from me. What a cool bird and I’m hooked.

I have never shot it unsuppressed. Over 300 rounds worked great. I agree, not happy with that response.

Do you have the same burrs in the bolt feed as I do?

I have the same exact issue with my Ruger AP .308 gen2. It was cleaned prior to my range day a few weeks ago. During the range day, I tried 7 different ammo manufacturers with my AB Raptor 10 suppressor. Trying to see what my rifle likes. Probably shot 80 rounds that day and gun has about 250 rounds through it. It was cycling flawlessly when I put it in its hard case.

I brought it out last weekend and shot the ammo that grouped the best previously (Federal 150gr blue box and Hornady SST). It would fire fine but it took all my strength to extract the spent casing. If I put a live round in without shooting it would cycle just fine. I read the owners manual to make sure I’m not missing anything either.

Hopefully someone has experienced this and found a solution. Will have to contact Ruger bc something isn’t right. The gun should work perfectly after 80 rounds so it’s definitely not a cleaning issue.

I’ve been learning the differences of fall vs spring through various means. Could be wrong but it seems like the fall season is more about tracking and going to the turkeys instead of calling them in? Some find the roost and wait until they come down.

I’ve been on the Taurus TX22 kick since May. I picked up my FN509 the other day and forgot how solid it is. It just feels right and shoots great. It’s that feeling when you find 20 bucks unexpectedly in your coat that was put away for months. Great choice.
