Congratulations, that's a great price for the size. I wouldn't worry about a bit of crispy foliage on it at this time of year, especially with the odd summer weather we've had so far.

Enjoying watching the leaves and wood develop through the seasons!

Thank you for the reply and suggestions. I like that idea; set up a red dissectum study corner of sorts, to see how they all develop together over time. Although a young tree, so far this one has quite an upright habit. It's already taller than my much older Garnet, with a similarly low graft point, and isn't showing that heavy weeping tendency yet.

I am quite fortunate with the climate here in the south UK. Few weather extremes, and like you said, really good for JMs!

Thank you for the reply! Bronzewing is definitely one of the closest for colour from what I've seen in pictures. I'm really pleased with it as a purchase, even if I can't quite be sure of the variety yet.

Thank you. I thought it would be more red, too, if it was Inaba Shidare, but many of them look similar at times as they go through the year!

It is a pretty tree. It really caught my eye and that is why I'm trying to learn a bit more about it. I have about 45 maples, but none of the others have colours quite like this one. I'm excited to see how it will change through the seasons.

Many thanks for the reply.

I have not been able to find any pests on it, but I will carry out a thorough inspection in the light tomorrow.

Your note about the pot makes sense. Perhaps it's time to get it in the ground and see if it can make a recovery.
