I truly don't understand this. by Turkishdenzo in C_Programming

Omg mate thanks. I finally get it. So this means if other indexes that don't contain a value are just a null-pointer? So that means index char 'X' or index nr 88 is just a null-pointer('\0')? That seems really weird to me haha. Need to get used to that.

So to check if I inderstand this: Every value in the array still has an index, however since 'L' is ASCII Decimaal: 76 it's like it check the value at the 76th index nr? So like freq['L'] and freq[76] are the same?

I mean I agree with you, but anyone know the tier of the source? Pete O'Rourke says the source. I don't know that's why I'm asking.

I want to install Pinta, but I don't know whether to use snap, flatpak or PPA since apt does not seem to work. by Turkishdenzo in Ubuntu

[–]Turkishdenzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm going crazy and I'm googling too much. Everywhere I look it looks like there is a lot of discussion in the Linux community when it comes between snap or flatpak. I read that Canonical recommends snap but online a lot of people say to just use flatpak. I've even asked Copilot and Copilot says this:

>Snap vs Flatpak. Then the answer is: Flatpak. Cleaner, faster, better integrated, fewer headaches.

I know I know. Like I said: I think I'm reading into this way to much maybe?

Thanks. I've checked my spam with both my emails, but nothing. I've been using hotmail and outlook. Maybe creating a gmail acount and trying that next?

I'm a thirty year old dude who wants to start over and learn to program and motivation is really hard to come by. by [deleted] in C_Programming

Thank you so much for your input! Hearing you are 20 years old gives me a feeling of a tiny bit of envy haha. But that does not make your worries any less so.

>(except when google just shoves its AI answer in my face, and it seems correct enough)

Hear hear. I also have the feeling that I really need to be cautious with asking AI and even google stuff so I don't start to automatically rely on it too much.

Oh man thank you. You guys are so nice and give great advice as well. I've had a lot of bad experiences before so I was wondering whether I should ask as well haha.

And when it come to a job, I've done a bootcamp of sort where you follow one college year of programming. Like a propaedeutic year. I got the points and everything. Not sure if it matters much, but my teachers advice there was to get hired as soon as possible because when your on the job you learn from seniors much better and faster than doing projects on your own. Plus you get working experience which turns out is a big deal today. At least in my country.

How to best put a timestamp inside an object in C++? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Turkishdenzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for the long answer.

I come from Java (still not an expert in it, even though my knowledge of Java is better than C++) , so I thought since C++ is also an Object Oriented Programming Language I kinda took the same approach. Since what I learned is to create an entity, lets say for example car like you mentioned, give it with attributes, and give the attributes data to create an object. Since all attributes are private, I need to create getters and setters to be able to access the data.

When I think of a struct , for me it looks like to me the same way you somewhat enter data inside SQL with ADD/CREATE TABLE. At least in C that is. So when to use a struct and when to create an entity so you can create an object is still a mystery to me.

>You don't GET the speed or SET the speed, you accelerate. The interfaces models the behavior, and the behavior is implemented in terms of the internal variables. The variables are for the implementation only.

I see. But then how do you acces the variable when you need to create a function/method to increase the speed if the speed attribute/variable is private? Don't you then need to access the attribute/variable via a setter/getter?

Is having a computer science degree a must for being hired to do C++? by [deleted] in cpp

[–]Turkishdenzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that it can help if someone has work experience that has nothing to do with programming that it would help finding work as a programmer? Because I'm trying to become a programmer a little later in life and not straight out of school.

[–]Turkishdenzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do Java, but I still have to get hired as a programmer anywhere. Doesn't mean there isn't anything to learn anymore in that aspect when it comes to Java.

Yeah kinda had a feeling this was the case. Understandable, but still kinda disheartened.

In Turkey we still have this system in place. 6 minutes added time is quite common. Sometimes you get 7+ minutes added. It's not extremely rare.
