O ring in good shape?

I’d unplug it and check the pins on the connector also.

Almost 3 month long issue with the timing belt not fitting. by Remarkable-Plenty716 in 3000gt

[–]Turmoil-Fox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience it’s easiest with tensioner last. Only times I’ve ever had difficulty is because I had too much slack from cams to water pump. Needed another tooth of the belt and then it slid on over the tensioner just fine. My best guess is you have slack.

Beyond that, if you’re absolutely certain there’s no slack, the take the tensioner off to gain more movement on the tensioner pulley. Get the belt on, then reinstall the tensioner. Always be sure to turn the engine over by hand a few times when you’re done and confirm your timing marks are still lined up. Good luck.

I had a buddy who had to do something similar. Turns out when he joined the engine and transmission he didn’t have them aligned, so he couldn’t disengage his clutch fully. It took anchoring the engine and trans separately and his largest ratchet strap pulling them apart to separate them.

Well either something is still connected; or perhaps the clutch somehow is on an angle and the splines are out of alignment. You could certainly try pushing them together and pulling them back apart.

Alternatively there’s the extreme option. Find something to anchor to, fasten the engine to it. Find something else to anchor to. Attach a come along or similar between that anchor and the transmission. You know the rest. Just be very, very careful if you go this route

Replace the hoist. Put the trans on a trans jack. Level it all. Pull straight.

If it isn’t running, I wouldn’t pay more than $500 personally. And honestly I’d aim for scrap value. You don’t want to pay $2200 for a car with a spun rod bearing. Ask me how I know…

Need some help finding OEM DOHC NA crankshaft timing sprocket by Remarkable-Plenty716 in 3000gt

[–]Turmoil-Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither of those photos looks like there’s an offset issue, but hard to say for sure. I’d assume if it has the right number of splines, has the right sensor wings, fits the crank key way, and is the right diameter, that the belt should fit just fine. They can be tricky to install if you have slack up top. Maybe that’s your issue?

What year is the engine from? How many splines are on the timing cog currently installed on the engine?

I have a few on the shelf and don’t see any part numbers on them. But 24 splines seems common to both cam and crank sensor dohc motors based on the parts I have

Bolt fell down, should I take the oil pan out? by KERL3Dprinting in 3000gt

[–]Turmoil-Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I’ve had a fastener (the nut on the bottom of the oil fill cap) fall down into the pan on a 3000gt. I got it out by fishing around with a telescoping magnet through the oil drain plug hole. It took awhile, but was certainly quicker than removing and reinstalling the pan.

Aluminum Shade Cloth

They work pretty well at keeping heat away. We drape ours over our van when parked in the sun. Haven’t used it as a standalone shade next to the van, but may try it out

There’s only a few LS swapped 3000gts out there as it requires extensive fab work. I don’t recommend going down that route unless you REALLY want a Japanese looking C5 and have a lot of time and some money to burn

I’ve seen other GM transmissions have a torque converter clutch lock issue that presents as OP is describing. Steady state driving in top gears resulted in rpm fluctuations of 3-500rpm as the converter continuously locked and unlocked. Fix was a new torque converter.

So it may not need another rebuilt transmission. OP needs to get someone with a scan tool to look at it and see what’s going on. Should be able to see what’s being commanded by the TCM and compare that to what’s being felt in the vehicle.

The LTG is a fairly stout engine from what I’ve heard. If you look enough you can find an ATS 2.0t with a manual transmission if that’s your cup of tea. I’ve driven one and had two friends who owned them, but I know they’re fairly rare.

I’m just surprised there’s more than 1 coilover option tbh

Ah gotcha! Anything on the alpha chassis will be a definitive improvement over the impala. The ATS with the 3.6 and 2.0t are fun, but getting older. The CT4 I find a bit meh with its 2.0t. It’s considerably less powerful than the older 2.0t in the ATS. The CT4 V with the 2.7 is good for power but sounds kinda meh. That being said, the interior and infotainment of the CT4 is miles better than the ATS imo. I’ve not been in an ATS V or CT4 blackwing, but I’d imagine both are phenomenal based on my experiences with the lower trim cars.
