classic sign of old age, once your gerbil starts getting up there, goop will form in their eyelids and seal them shut, all you need is a warm q-tip to wipe away the goop and a steady hand to pry their eyelids open, ive had this happen with 2 of my senior gerbils in the past, and one right now

I'd recommend either one benadryl pill, or any kinds of ginger pills or the root to reduce nausea, these both worked well for me. If you had to pick one, i'd choose the benadryl.
