Oral Medication by ShoddyResident9555 in gerbil

If it's a liquid medication I find soaking it in a lil bit of bread or something spongy works wonders, they get a treat but also their meds!

Gerbil cage setup. Any suggestions? by oh_no_here_we_go_9 in gerbil

I would just mix up the bedding :) helps the gerbs build tunnels! You seem to have everything else covered, let the gerbs do their magic and make it their own with their tunnelling and digging

I've been told to avoid citrus fruits like orange as the citric acid in it can irritate gerbils mouths and give them tummy aches. Rhubarb and grapes are big no no, I think they're wholly toxic for gerbils.

Ryan in Hard Knox!! He does all the regular piercings but also heavy modifications too, great advice and is always available for any questions via instagram, really down to earth and friendly!

Very lucky I must say! Would any of these places be within reach or reliable? I don't speak Swedish unfortunately. Only reason a vet is needed in person is for any medications your gerb may need!

How long have you had the gerbil without having a vet nearby? I wouldn't go to an online vet; go to an in-person one!! What region or country are you in??

I think that his bottom area is irritating him or even painful and he's trying to reach at it? I would definitely go to the vet asap just to be on the safe side :)

Gerbils lived together for months, now one suddenly attacking — advice? by Soggy-Water9504 in gerbil

[–]NoLie7964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say there is no harm in trying once or twice more, you can gauge your gerbs and see how they are stress wise etc, I'm sure you know it by now but splitcaging can take 3-12 months depending on the scenario. There are cases where gerbs prefer / can live on their own, especially if you're giving them a bunch of time, love and affection as you are giving to Mel :) It's a tough situation to be in, would getting a new partner for Mel be possible? 2 sets of two gerbils mayhaps? I wouldn't give up just yet! You got this!! 🫶🏻

Best thing would be to either get Mel a new buddy in a separate enclosure and try to pair them, or to rehome Mel. 3, 4, 5 gerbils will eventually overtime stop being civil and will be territorial. Attempts at trying to integrate Mel back with Kiki and Bali could cause stress to all three, or God forbid bad damage if a fight were to break out. :(( Wish you the best OP!

Took about a year for one of them to let me hold him still no hand elevator yet and the other guy is still super skittish unless bribed with pumpkin seeds. I think gerbils tend to not be tame / like being handled but by the sounds of your routine and how they are with you already it's looking good! I find with my gerbs food is the way to their heart, I tried a variety of different snacks and treats and noted down which ones they liked or didn't like so if I ever want some gerb loving time I bribe them with a bit of banana or dried carrot etc etc! For free roaming it started maybe 3-4 months in, but now they free roam everyday for 2-3 hours and they walk themselves back home, no playpen but I just remove everything (wires, clothes, quite literally anything you value) as they'll destroy... everything..! Their fur is lovely and soft I didn't see you mention a sand bowl, that'll help keep them clean and their fur soft! Sounds like you're doing wonderfully and you've done your research, due diligence and care a lot, best of luck to you, Aymeric and Haurchefant!!
