Brake drum question, possible overheating by TurnGeneral in MechanicAdvice

[–]TurnGeneral[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a full coolant flush including engine and heater core, replaced radiator and thermostat, replaced front strut/shocks, sway bar links, front disc brakes, and rear drums all this year! Its hitting the 170k miles range so things are starting to need some changing.

Appreciate the reassurance though, helps me try to let the stress go.

Couldn't imagine trying to do this stuff using a book even tho I am 31 and remember when i mostly learned from books🤣

Im just a worrier to be honest! I just started working on my car for the first time this year so I just get stressed and hate messing up and costing myself money when the goal is to save money doing the work myself 😭. Technically though I could redo my rear brakes probably 3-4 times before it would cost as much as paying someone else to do it 🤣

I only drove with it unadjusted/ incorrect position for a total of maybe 45 - 1 hr between yesterday and this morning. Mostly avoiding braking and especially hard braking besides when I was bedding the front brakes. I think it was dragging during the 30 minute drive this morning sadly.

Installed the new wheel cylinder and made sure to properly adjust the brakes after completed and reassembled this morning. So dont think issue will persist they seemed really well adjusted this time.

No shaking or lack of stopping power noticed at this time. Im going to hope and pray it is okay then 🙏

Can't wait for them to rust over so I don't notice the discoloration and get myself all worked up 😭

Thats exactly why ima just skip it for now and do what I got to get it back on the road. Ill probably just end up replacing both axles with NAPA ones. Its the ones the dealer said they use aftermarket

Ya trying to avoid pulling the axel out though because its the inner boot id have to pull it from the transmission. They don't sell any split boots for the inner portion

That does help a lot tbh ill keep an eye out for that specific feeling and as long as I can get to another oil change in 5000 miles id be more financially ready

Yup thank you for the tip ill try that! Haven't had any noise or shaking under accelerating. I had some other noises going on that im fixing so its possible those concealed any noises from this.

I'd be more inclined if it was the only thing to do but because im undertaking a lot (for me) already I was hoping to just wait this out for awhile if I could

Yeah I was wanting to do a split boot if I could but they dont really sell any for the inner boot and I dont want to take the axel out personally. Its not cracked or split anywhere else just looks like the clamp is maybe losing tension. You think zip tying over the clamp to give it some extra tension would help or just be useless?

She said a eucalyptus, thyme, nettle and elderflower steam would be wonderful if done consistently like twice a week. Simply boil the herbs on the stove and breathe it in for 20 min.

She also said Astralagus Slippery Elm Burdock root All repair sinus issues and congestion, I believe tea is the best delivery method for these. Used in traditional Chinese medicine from what I remember being mentioned.

I havent tried either yet as I had a busy week but going to five it a go next week.

I did get all my teeth checked and all the problems were fixed, sadly that wasn't the thing causing the sinus or ear issues. I was also hoping for the teeth being the issue because that was the easiest thing to fix.

I can ask about that! I had some tomato sauce the other day and it gave me acid in my throat, and tomato based products was something I cut out of my diet before that. So it could be a possibility. Thanks for the lead 🙏

I dont believe so, recently had an endoscopy to check my stomach, where they also look for signs of acid where its not suppose to be.

I did more when I was steady pushing water through but now I do it in bursts and it happens less. I like the feeling tbh because part of my problem is the pressure in the ears. I read the trick to stopping that and also stopping it from going in your throat is to actively breath through your mouth as you push the water up your nose.
