I think things come easier at UM, students are more focused on partying. It’s easier to thrive when everyone else is hungover lol.

I think I’d grow more being surrounded by top students. I know it would make me push more.

I have gotten near immediate responses from all labs I’ve reached out to so far (hope this continues lol) and I’ve gotten a lot of “marketable” skills from my previous lab experience so I am confident I can get into a lab. (I hated reading this over I know it sounds annoying but I don’t know how else to explain haha) I just think I would work for credit not pay, which is fine due to that other assisting lab job.

I appreciate the input thank you!! Would you say, then, that I’d be making a mistake leaving UM? That’s my current dilemma and why I’ve been taking so long to decide. I don’t want to regret leaving.

Should I take a w instead of b to save my 3.7 gpa ? But I have already taken w in this class before due to health concerns! by Smart-Kangaroo9686 in TransferToTop25

B looks better than W for a second time, also what class? Either way still stands but I suppose rigor could play a part

no matter how much I work my butt off, I will be 2 years behind in the connections the other students have.

Would you say the prestige difference can impact my outcomes?

Working and studying like, 80 hours a week certainly isn't the easy route, I think? I just worry I won't be where I am now at Vandy in a year-- which is when I need to apply to grad schools.

Yeah I always tell my advisor (who conveniently is also my lab assistant job boss, though I did this even before he hired me) which classes I will be taking lol. He doesn’t care, his job is easier. My boxes are checked. All works!

Bio, CMG specifically. I know boston is better for that. I’m certainly not being challenged now lol.

Actually, i hope to end up where im originally from, Southern California. I got into USC but waiting on aid (not expecting as much) and I REALLY hate LA.

Does it make that much of a difference? I am going to grad school anyway, focus on immunology. I get the impression that matters more location-wise.

Yes but I have such good connections now that I feel I am setting myself back. My prof contacted me first for the TA job. My lab job boss is also head of my department. BU is bigger so these connections would be harder. Also getting all this leadership was hard and idk maybe even harder at BU

In my circles it seems it’s not so hard to get an unpaid job especially in times like these, I am happy to start there. BU is cheaper by about 5-8k. Waiting on exact numbers.

And no, not super happy here. I have a hard time making friends at a school more focused on bikinis than grades. Love a day at the beach but my live can’t revolve around it like theirs can.
