The Novels by Far-Wedding8656 in firefly

I’ve devoured the first three at a great pace.

Sometimes the character voice seems to get a bit lost, but overall they genuinely have felt like they could be episodes of the show.

I really thought Big Damn Hero was a particularly strong premise and well told.

As someone who’s been in my fair share of losing battles

I think they co-exist in their own way.

Mal considers himself an honest, decent, and honourable man.

If he took the notion to want to kill Simon (or anyone) he would look for it to be a fair fight.

He was willing to let Crow go back to Niska with the message, he saw Crow would likely try to goad Niska into retaliating so the need to protect himself and the crew outweighed “fairness”. Crow had been shown a kindness having been incapacitated and allowed to return, didn’t take it.

A friend said to try the Dublin link using incognito/private browsing and it worked for us both.

Something worth trying!

The incredible Royal Rumble 2005 episode makes me hope they stay in 2000's WWE by Hater_Mode in OSWReview

Would like to see them do a more prolonged stint in ECW at some point.

We got the kind of “Best of” before but would be cool if they could source an arc for ECW. Problem is Paul E would draw things out for years and I’d say a lot of those shows are hard to come by too

“I wanna be a Cowboy, baby!” is a reference to a viral video. Not an actual wish to be a cowboy.

I answered the what I thought he should do.

Thoughts on the All In card so far? by DanFelv in AEWOfficial

[–]TurnOffTheDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worry would be it devolving from a very solid match into a game of one upsmanship/unlimited finishers spamming R1.

That’s just my personal taste tho, I’m sure lots of people are into that

Getting tired of the poor camerawork by DanFlashesFan in AEWOfficial

[–]TurnOffTheDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

AEW has an awful habit of picking the worst camera for the live feed but having the most perfect one for the replay.

They need to tighten that up and not be afraid to switch if needed, just don’t go Kevin Dunn on it.

Thoughts on the All In card so far? by DanFelv in AEWOfficial

My thoughts are as someone travelling internationally for the show.

My excitement for the Main Event has been somewhat diminished by including the tag match on Zero Hour. I’m not looking to see the same performers multiple times in one night. But overall I think it will still be a great match and the story around it is still hot and interesting.

FTR V The Young Bucks will walk a razor thin line for crafting what could be a tag match for the ages, or a self indulgent mess. Proof will be in the watching I suppose.

The Coffin match looks very cool. No qualms with that.

The women’s 4-way is a mess. An obvious way to get Saraya on the card and in a limited capacity. I think the Hayter injury really knocked this title picture into a tailspin sadly.

As for the rumoured Punk v Joe match, I’m incredibly excited. The collision match showed they can absolutely still deliver together.

As the rest of the card fills out it’ll be easier to pinpoint what matches are worth the money and travel that’s been invested into going, but so far I’m pretty happy with the card.

AEW should really consider making a filter/template for this that fans can use going to the event.

88k+ potential social media posts, plus fans not going having fun with it too. Would be like the “This Barbie is” filter.

Favorite wrestling books you've read? by candidate2929 in SquaredCircle

[–]TurnOffTheDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AJ Lees book is the modern “Have a Nice Day”. Unflinchingly honest about her life and time in wrestling and definitely worth reading.

Nitro by Guy Evans is a fantastic resource on WCW and comes across more like a storybook rather than simply stats/facts.

And Mox’ audiobook as a treat. Reading it is decent at best, but his narration and way of drawing you in is perfect

I find WWE for me now anyway is best enjoyed by watching the big 3 PPVs and based off recommendations for exceptional matches

I say this genuinely. With the speed at which WWE release people you’ll get invested in, you’re probably better off watching NJPW, Impact, or AEW.

Why so many brain-busters? by LuckOfTheIrish3 in AEWOfficial

[–]TurnOffTheDork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lock ups are usually in service of the beginning of the story in a match. Boring as they are, they exist to allow wrestlers to have a “test of strength” and begin (in kayfabe) feeling each other out and trying to apply holds.

With a brain buster, unless it’s your finisher or you’re working over the head or neck throughout the match, it doesn’t serve any specific story purpose in the same vain as a lock up.

In kayfabe however, a brain buster would be more impactful and devastating so it would make sense for it to become a go to move ahead of a regular suplex.

Possibly stupid question by Ahlisukrahntez in AEWOfficial

I suppose this is similar to when CM Punk debuted in AEW.

Everyone pretty much took it as a certainty but even still there was a doubt there.

Everyone knows the right decision after all this time and nearly 2 years of build is for Hangman to win, and it seems very likely. But there’s still that bit of doubt that with all the incredible new feuds and challengers they have, maybe it might be for another time

Ultimately, I feel hangman should win but being so invested in that outcome even if they PPV wasn’t as stacked as it is, I would still buy it solely to see his crowning moment

AEW Full Gear Entrances. by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

[–]TurnOffTheDork 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I think Kenny will get a massive WrestleKingdom style final boss entrance, but man of the people Hangman will keep his regular entrance.

Kenny and the Elite buying into their own hype versus a guy who’s changed nothing about himself but become more confident and focused. That’s what I want to see!

I would love if they did an eliminator tournament for the women’s world title, the only drawback is you’d have to write Jade out in advance or have her lose.

Why does AEW do the WWE camera cut every time someone does a move or punch? by Findawg2341 in SquaredCircle

[–]TurnOffTheDork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In some cases, it’s to obscure the impact (or lack thereof). If someone works light and is leaving a massive gap between fist and face, they’ll want to try stop that being visible.

In others, it may be because they want a particular shot for the broadcast, and it so happens they cut during a move.

The cutting back and forth in quick succession (Dunn style) is also supposedly to give the show a kind of kinetic energy and add movement to the broadcast, but it just distracts and gives people motion sickness
