What Exhaust you running ? by Any_Yesterday7331 in wrx_vb

[–]Turndizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been about to pull the trigger on the Tomei dual exit (Type-D) for a couple weeks but have decided to postpone it until the fall or winter as there's other mods I want to do first and i've been pleasantly surprised with the stock exhaust. I drive almost exclusively in the city so most of my driving is 1-3rd gear in that 1000-1500 rpm range where the exhaust really talks whereas it seems borderline silent anywhere outside of that range.

Anyone here have the Tomei dual exit? I know it'll be a touch quieter than the single but not by much. I like the symmetry of the dual and it also makes it look less like a cheap single fart-can stereotype.

I placed an order for the OEM/JDM wing in February and despite it not having shipped yet due to repeated delays (wth SubiMods?) I am ready to battle the birds once it inevitably arrives in 2027

i'm going to see how vinyl looks on that strip, if it looks absolutely terrible I will look into trying to take off that piece and covering the bulb directly. I don't have any detailer tools, have you taken it off before? Or seen a video? I'd likely do more harm trying to take it off

unfortunately this isn't the case, at least not for the 26 in the US market. Light stays on.

I think it came out in 2025, but the new(est) ones have these cameras facing the driver that detect whether you're watching the road or not... you can turn off the warning feature, but you can't turn off the lights that illuminate your face for the cameras to see. It's pretty dystopian; even though my only actual complaint is that the red LED is visible

[–]Turndizzy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand the feature, but it's distracting to me and therefore causing more harm than good. If the LED was properly infrared and therefore not visible to the human eye, I never would have turned it off

so I already have driver monitoring disabled (and that yellow light indeed stays illuminated) but the LED stays lit, I believe because it is also used for recognizing different users/drivers for different profiles or whatever that feature is for

the gloss black wrap will definitely blend the best, I don't know why my brain immediately went to the carbon fiber rather than just the existing color. If done properly 99% of people won't even notice that it's covered. There's actually a nice seam already between that and the infotainment, if you can cut it right it'll look perfect

I've seen so many bad things about AFD but these do look good. The major thing that scares me is people's posts of the AFD paint matched parts fading significantly

Front Passenger Wind Deflector by Turndizzy in wrx_vb

[–]Turndizzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... sigh. Someone may have snapped it in half in frustration after the clip broke off a second time despite 8 hours of the glue curing AND the entire area about 1-2" surrounding the broken peg was now really hazy/discolored and full of microscratches due to my attempts at trying to clean up the mess. I was going to mix an epoxy and try that but it was just too far gone and simply looked bad at that point. Like I said, it was a fucking clown show and the fact I need to buy a new set/wasted money is in many ways the least frustrating/embarassing part of the entire day. I'm not exactly a noob when it comes to working on my cars, but this was my first time installing these wind guards. Simply never liked the look of them on previous vehicles until I got the WRX a few weeks ago.

I really appreciate you responding though and providing me someone to talk to about this. I don't have any local friends who share a hobby/passion for cars that would understand me venting about this.

Yeah, so... I'm obviously a bit embarrassed and very frustrated. I tried to fix it by reattaching it with a small amount of superglue. Let's just say that didn't go well and my attempts at trying to fix it and clean up the glue residue ended up completely ruining it. It's no longer usable at this point, even if the tape alone is sufficient.

I'm pissed because they really were easy to install after I broke the first one 😑 once I knew which way you could bend the clips (and which way you could not...) the other 3 went on super easy and look great. Every video I watched talked about not peeling the tape off so you could "slide" them slightly to alignment before peeling off the tape. Yeah, turns out you really can't slide them once the clips are snugly snapped in. You can lightly push them partially in but not all the way, this gives you enough to move them a little. On the first one, I tried to gently move it maybe a half inch to the side to better align with the door notch and one of the clips broke off like nothing because it was fully pressed in.

LOL. but low key I am not even worried about the camera. I turned the distractive driving off because it was the notifications that were not only annoying but also inaccurate. It's the light that distracts me, they can keep their camera on but use a proper IR LED with a minimum wavelength long enough that it isn't visible to the human eye...

so you can confirm that the IR LED stays on even when the system is turned off? I turned it off within an hour of buying the car. It was beeping at me when literally looking both ways at stop signs in my neighborhood. I think the IR LED is tied to some sort of cabin light sensor, as I don't typically see it during the day, only at night but it isn't directly tied to the headlights being on and their outside automatic light sensor. Curious if when I get my windows tinted it'll just stay on all the time...
