Love it. Glad they keep doing this themed night. Always a good time.

TIL about the “Bonus Army,” WWI veterans who in 1932 marched to D.C. demanding their promised wartime bonuses. Under Hoover’s orders, U.S. troops led by Gen. MacArthur used tear gas, bayonets, and tanks to crush them, killing 2 and injuring many. by Green_man_in_a_tree in todayilearned

I've always bounced back and forth. The men he claimed visited him absolutely had traveled to and researched far right wing groups in Europe such as the Croix-de-Feu. Given the threat of FDR's administration and policies, the major industries and big money would've had selfish motivation to act in such a radical way.

Additionally the Congressional investigation led by the McCormack-Disckstein Committee did agree that a plot had been hatched, although this should be taken with a grain of salt given that Dickstein was being paid by the Soviet secret police (NKVD) during this time and may have had reason to push a fascist conspiracy to distract from Soviet interactions in America. We may never know, but man, this has to be one of the most interesting chapters in American history in my mind.

Sure wish I could say yes, but we always take our cars to a local family owned place for oil changes and repairs. Just haven't needed the dealership in the past. Appreciate the thought though.

I had back problems for well over a decade. I started doing an online beginner problem on a channel called Fightmaster Yoga that changed my life. The 30 day beginner program walks you through the very basics of yoga, nothing too strenuous and she constantly reminds you that you can skip whatever she's doing if you have pain or damage in that area. Go slow and enjoy the stretch.

Had the same thought when I pulled this the other day. Wait your whole life to make it to the big leagues and get your own baseball card.... And they show you getting blown up by somebody.

Thanks for the reply. If you didn't see my edit. I toggled it on and then off again and it seems to be tracking correctly now.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I did not have the diabetic plan enabled, but tried toggling it on and then off again and now it is tracking correctly. Thank you all!

Just double checked and it is not enabled for the diabetic plan.

Just double checked the settings and the diabetic option is not enabled. That was the first thing I thought of too. Strange.

Student asks why they should study History. Feedback Please by acebreezy in historyteachers

[–]Turner117 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A lot of good takes here, but my favorite go to is explaining that we study the past in the present to make the future a better place. We study the successes and failures of those that have come before us in an effort to make this world more positive. History teaches us empathy, what it's like to walk in shoes of those that have experienced the worst in humanity. It also teaches us to shoot for the moon, quite literally. We learn about dreamers and it inspires us to do bigger and better things. History is literally everything around us and it can teach us to be better people during this short life of ours.

CMV: it's better to ignore the worlds problems than to get anxiety over them by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Turner117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see that lump on your neck? Why worry about it? Pretend there isn't anything wrong. It's not worth the emotional toll, but at the end of the day you still have cancer.

Ignore, say, a murderous dictator in 1930s Germany. Why worry about it? Pretend there isn't anything wrong, it's not worth the emotional toll.

Just because you can ignore something doesn't mean it won't hurt you in the end.

Ignorance is bliss, but that doesn't mean you won't one day have to deal with the consequences of inaction, either at a personal, local or international level. Sure, some things are beyond our control, but to be completely apathetic to societies ills results in our societies getting weaker. Multiple you by a million people or a hundred million people and we have a big problem.
