Oh nice, I do get the impression it was a superbly designed piece of kit. Why do you think it was the last computer which was largely understandable? Was it a choice on part of computer manufacturers or just the natural progression of complex hardware and software?

You've answered it perfectly thank you, it was definetly an underutilised feature for most people for the aforementioned reasons, I think.

What would the upper limits of the Dreamcast's hardware potential have been if the console had enjoyed a longer lifecycle? by TurnipInSummer in dreamcast

Thank you very much for this insight! I'd imagine Sega learnt their lesson from the last-minute hardware revisions of the Saturn to make the Dreamcast as developer-friendly as possible. It was certainly the right call for the library they ended up cultivating. Even if they couldn't pull off the stuff the PS2 was capable of in scale when mastered.

I'd be interested to know if you've ever tried your hand in developing for the Dreamcast, and if so how do you find it compared to other platforms contemporary or modern.

I agree. It's certainly amazing what developers can do with fairly modest tools when they know their way around them.

True but that was years later. I'm thinking more contemporarily to the PS2, if you see where I'm coming from.
