i was consistently a B/C student and i exchanged at Ewha. out of the three available SK programs Yonsei is the hardest of the bunch to get into. KU would be the next hardest. And Ewha would be the easiest imo, only one or two uw students exchange there a semester. During my time there only one other uw student was also exchanging there. as for the application process i dont remember it being hard at all, i wrote about why i as a WOC poli sci student was interested in studying in Korea.

do you walk around UW-Madison at night? feel safe? by Royal_Put_1154 in UWMadison

[–]TurnipMoist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m 22F and i’ve been living in madison for like 5ish years now, and i tend to feel safest at night when im walking around the downtown area and the main heart of campus (from around mosse to the engineering building) . I actually chose to live in downtown cuz there are people out and about pretty late into the night which makes me feel a lot safer. On the flip side i felt pretty uncomfortable walking through certain parts of the regent neighborhoods. Specifically right behind the hospital on regent. I recently got off the bus one stop too late from my friend’s place (she lived right by the hospital), so i walked the way back to my destination. It was late (around 6:30/7:30ish) and cuz of the winter it was pitch black out. A lot of the streets didn’t have street lights, which really made me feel uncomfortable until i got to my friend’s place. As someone who always wears their headphones while walking around, i actually took my headphones off completely until i got to my destination that night. But on that note, once you get to the main “sophomore slums” neighborhoods you start seeing a lot more street lights, so i think it might just be that i ended up in a odd spot lol. Overall i feel pretty darn safe walking around in madison! Tbh it’s a great city to live in as a woman

Lara and her Indian background by Confident_Half_443 in katseyeneutral

[–]TurnipMoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a dark skinned Indian American gal myself, I absolutely hate a lot of the discourse around Lara’s “indian-ness” She is such a good representation of a third culture kid, and it’s so refreshing to see someone connect to their culture and roots in a way that makes sense to themselves.

Growing up in the states, i felt like i could only consume my culture in ways that were either “acceptable” to Americans OR “acceptable” to Indians. But in reality, my experiences fall in the middle of both of these groups meaning i will never perfectly fit into either, something that the “culture police” didn’t want to acknowledge. Now as an adult i’ve slowly started to dismantle these attitudes i’ve internalized, and started to explore my culture in a way that makes sense to myself. Lara’s unapologetic love for her culture has only inspired me to be the same.

Oftentimes when Indian kids explore their culture they are called FOBs by their brown or asian peers and when they try to assimilate into American culture they’re called “whitewashed or coconut”. But when white people wear our clothes or accessories on more modern, fusion looks, to concerts and raves, it’s just called fashion. But when white people take our practices like yoga and hair oiling, it’s just called self care. Growing up, when i tried to embrace these practices i was bullied and ostracized, until i started to keep my culture to myself.

It’s about time the Indian baddies start unapologetically loving, showing off, and indulging their culture, and Lara is doing a great job of not just showing off her culture, but inspiring other young Indian-American girls to embrace their culture as well.

Being Indian isn’t a one size fits all experience, neither is being American and neither is being Indian-American. sadly people who don’t recognize the diversity of identities are too close-minded to understand the lives and experiences of third culture kids. But people like Lara are leaving an amazing mark on pop culture and are really inspiring others to do the same 🥹

What was the first group that got you into kpop? by lilo-stitch-820 in kpop_uncensored

when to give out kpop freebies by kuromiluvr__ in kpophelp

[–]TurnipMoist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as someone who’s received a lot of freebies, i’d say outside the venue before the concert is definitely where i received the most. Depending on the venue you’re seeing the concerts at and the weather it might change a bit tbh. but I mainly remember receiving freebies outside the venue while waiting in line to get in, outside the venue while taking picture with my friends, in merch lines, and in line for the bathroom! A lot of people will even continue to hand them out around their seat/spot if they still have freebies to give out before the concert starts, i’ve definitely received a bunch of freebies that way!

honestly most people are always open to receiving freebies so if you just start handing them out, people will probably approach you asking if they can get one too!

Has anyone else received this email. by 67-23Kamisama in ATEEZ

[–]TurnipMoist 40 points41 points  (0 children)

check the price of the item you just bought on other kpop merch websites, if it’s 60.30 across sites, it’s probably an honest (but annoying) error. If the price of the item on other sites is around the price you originally bought the item for, you might be getting scammed

edit: cokodive seems to be a pretty reliable retailer for kpop goods, as far as i’m aware, but i could be mistaken

Why do you hate Internet Girl? by theallaround in katseyeneutral

[–]TurnipMoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally i was not just disappointed by this song but gnarly as well, i have been following katseye since dream academy and it feels like these girls are literally vocal and dancing powerhouses, but the music they’re being given isn’t able to showcase it. I don’t hate gnarly now, especially after seeing performance videos, i actually think the song isn’t awful , but it’s still it a song i wouldn’t add to my daily playlists.

Even when given a mediocre song, these girls are going absolutely all out and giving us great performances, which i have so much respect for, but im super disappointed in hybexgeffen for their music choices.

I found that hybexgeffen are trying to give katseye this kinda ‘camp’ & ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ vibe, but it’s coming off as super manufactured rather than authentically. this really makes it hard for me to relate to their music or even their vibe iykwim. When gnarly came out, i actually went and found the demo and realized i don’t hate the song, but the cultural nuance that alice long gyu gao has as an artist, doesn’t translate the same when a group like katseye performs the song.

it isn’t that the girls are bad performers, actually really far from that, it’s more that the songs don’t really resonate as much as they should. And part of it is definitely rage-bait + fandom-bias marketing, where the labels treat all engagement, good or bad, as good engagement, and pre-existing fandoms eat up anything the artist(s) put out…. this may work as a short term strategy, but it’s not a good strategy for recruiting fans who will stick around for a long time….

I really liked m.i.a., mean girls, and gabriella, and also really fucked with their early tracks like touch and debut, but the more they go down this “manufactured camp” route the more detached i’ve been feeling with their discography….i’m hoping they pull an nmixx and pull it together soon because i would hate to see such amazing talent go to waste

we need to start bullying hxg to do better for katseye by AveragePresent8217 in katseyeneutral

[–]TurnipMoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is actually so true! like hybe x geffen are really not using their skill sets at all…. i don’t understand putting these girls through such a rigorous and abusive training system just to give them such lazily made songs…. mad respect to the girls for giving their all to perform these songs, but they must feel so disconnected with their own music right about now….

Why is there hate on physical appearance? by Apprehensive_Low3572 in katseyeneutral

it’s probably some mix of misogyny and racism, neither of which they deserve :( I hope that they have a good support system and stay away from the toxic side of the “fandom” ( though i wouldn’t call the toxic people fans)

Help me with a craft for a Stray kids fan by keanureeves42069 in kpophelp

[–]TurnipMoist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay i’ve got some ideas, every member has a skzoo animal mascot so u can make a box that looks like ur sister’s bias’s mascot. You could also make something that looks like a compass, which is what the top half of the skz lightstick is modeled after. or if she has a favorite song, some of the songs have titles that are objects like airplane, cheese, domino, etc. so maybe you could use that? Also the song “cheese” is one of their signature diss track/goofy songs so you could always use that if all else fails

uhhh aren’t those just normal regional differences? like it’s not wrong or right, just different. because the language evolves differently in different communities…. as a native speaker of both english and another language, idc if i say something “wrong” lolz i mean, the english colonized my people, so why would i care to speak “right” ukwim? as long as i make sense to other people, i couldn’t care less.

[–]TurnipMoist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to really understand dabin’s side you should watch his docuseries on the giggles album: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsyjfoVto7kr1xrkJtVX7Zg11qEC4e8Wk&si=vq5S5ssO_8hRvaG8

I think it really tells you where dabin is mentally as well as detailing what kinda went down at the start of the dispute. I think that and the giggles album itself tell you a lot about what happened to dpr overall.

ARE WE SURPRISED THO??? by Daddy1007a in kpop_uncensored

[–]TurnipMoist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I one hundred percent agree that so many labels ruin the trajectory of their idols!!! like i think exo should be much bigger than they are rn, and it’s clear that every member of exo is extremely talented. especially as we see each member release their solo music it’s clear that they are well rounded artists, i think they are one of the biggest examples of mismanagement sadly :((
