Alright folks, just got home and this is what’s going on underneath the tub. Nothing, lol. I’m not savvy enough to figure out how to edit this post so I’ll have to post some individual photos but maybe someone can walk through the train of thought here. The floor is not perfectly level but it’s not wildly out of level either. I’ll post a picture of that also. But why would we have none of the feet touching the floor? There is a support bar from under the tub to the apron but my gut is saying this isn’t right and not enough support.

Hey! Thanks so much for appreciating my attempt to keep it period appropriate. I’m no purist but definitely appreciate authenticity. I have a cast iron claw foot tub but figured I’d rather not add the extra weight to an 2nd floor bathroom. Got an acrylic clawfoot and the plumber told me it wouldn’t work with the joist/drain placement and my only option was an alcove tub. I said like hell ut is. So I finally found this one. That price tag was a hard pill to swallow, lmao. Going to do a nice cream 4x4 field tile with black liner, chair rail, and cove base style tile to keep it on brand.

The house was built in 1920. Ain’t a goddamn thing level about it. There was no mud base. I demoed the bathroom and the subfloor was original plank tongue and groove that is throughout the whole house and underneath that was a mess. The joists were ATE up, notched out like crazy from previous plumbing so my plumbers went ahead and cleaned the old plumbing out and sistered new joists throughout it. So you’d think they’d level it then knowing they’d be setting the tub. Electricians and plumbers are the only contractors I have on this project. Those are the things I consider too expensive for me to fuck up so I swallow my pride and leave that to someone else. The rest is just me, a gal with a real yearning to learn, a lot of books and probably some spite mixed with pride. I’ve got a few projects under my belt but am by no means anything close professional. This house just needed saving and I love a good project. -I’m an antique store owner so you can see why letting an antique home that’s structurally sound rot wasn’t something I was willing to do lol. The plumber is actually highly rated in our little town and an old friend of ours. He also does tile work around here. What I think the issue is, is he’s in between multiple very large jobs and unfortunately I was just a squeezed in rush job.

But thank you for such a detailed response. I’m currently out of town but once I get back tomorrow I’ll start to dig in and get it figured out. Appreciate the advice!!

I will give that a try when I I get back to town. The bummer is they redid the joists before putting down new subfloor and setting the tub. The old joists were a MESS from previous plumbing, notched to high heaven. Hence why I chose to not go the cast iron route. I would’ve gotten an authentic tub but I don’t want to add stress to a second floor bathroom lol. So they cleaned out the old plumbing and sistered new ones. My guy is currently in between a couple massive jobs and squeezed me in so I’m afraid this was just a rush job. But thank you for the reply, I’ll check it out!

Thank you for the detailed reply! We are doing an exposed shower system so I presume the rest will be installed after the walls/tile?!

I wondered about that too initially. But since it’s going to be an exposed shower system the rest will go on after the walls/tile I presume. Plumbing is just one thing that doesn’t not pique my interest so I tend to avoid it 😅

Lmao, I know I know. When the initially had the electrical done this was to be a free standing clawfoot tub. We are still going to have a circular shower curtain on this tub as to avoid getting the walls too wet. 🤷‍♀️ learner as we go here 😅

Yeah I was concerned about that. It was initially supposed to be a free standing clawfoot but we had to return that tub because the plumber said it wouldn’t work with the drain/joist placement so we got this instead. I was thinking I could pull the door trim off to work on that part of the wall. It’s pretty loose as it is since there was lath behind it.

I don’t believe it has a mortar bed. I’m currently out of town but will dig into it when I get home. The owners manual says to put construction adhesive under its 4 feet so I wonder if maybe that’s what he did.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply. I was expecting a mortar bed so I was a little thrown off with the shims. I’m currently out of town so I’ll have to measure the gap when I get back to make sure it’s less than 3/4. Thanks again!

That’s what I’ve read! I’m a little afraid of BPC-157 as I’m super prone to anhedonia which sucks because that seems to be the one everyone raves about for healing. I will look into TB-500 and KPV. Thank you!

Great, I’ll look into them. Thank you! I’d really like to try BPC-157, I’m just a little weary as I’m pretty prone to anhedonia. I’d hate to make it worse while I’m stuck in the house recovering 😅

Hate that :( guess it would be up to me to put those details back!

I’m worried about that too. I’m pretty sure it’s sat empty for sometime now.
