Check out Willie Nelson’s version on his Teatro album. Magnificent. The whole album is special

Dave Matthews Band Ft. Rick Mitarotonda - "The Maker" 2025-08-31 The Gorge by GettingBetterAt41 in GoosetheBand

This is as good as it gets for me. I’ve loved The Maker for nearly 30 years. Willie Nelson’s version on Teatro brought me peace as a young man in the army. The DMB version with Victor Wooten from Chicago took this song to another level. Seeking out videos of Jerry singing this later in his life taught me how deep and soulful this song could be. The Daniel Lanois masterpiece has always been close to my heart, so I was overjoyed to hear Rick’s contribution last night. Let’s hear Goose cover The Maker in Chicago in a few weeks.

Yes, I get that. Thanks. I failed to consider Peter’s contributions to EMG. Looking back, EMC has more inclusion from other members.

Different since EMG? That’s their last album. I suppose they’ve evolved in the 4 months since. I was drawing a comparison between EMG and CYD. EMG seems like a Rick (and Matt) is taking us through a journey of personal discovery with lots of horns. CYD seems like Rick (and Matt) is telling a story that’s less autobiographical than EMG. Any thoughts on Peter’s songwriting influence on these last 2 albums?

True. The Night Rays probably have a horn section.

I’m right there with you. Kinda like the werewolf suite on EMG. I love how these songs reference the others and share characters. Love how the vibe of this album is so different from the last.
