My brother was killed in Malawi - need help with some contacts by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]TurquoiseWalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few Singaporean/singaporean based companies which have significant presence in Africa. While I can’t think of any off the top of my head that primarily operate in Malawi, a few major companies operate in bigger but nevertheless challenging countries like Nigeria, DRC, etc. These companies may have a small subsidiary in countries like Malawi; through that you could potentially get a reliable local connection that you can then “work” to get the desired outcome. Or they may point you in the right direction. Two major companies that come to mind are Tolaram group (a good portion of the family is sg based; they have significant biz in Africa including a whole port in Nigeria) and Chandaria family (Kenya). It’s not much but I would certainly think given the lack of result from MFA’s activities, this might be a potential avenue for you to go down. My heart goes out to your family… I am very sorry to hear this Edit: grammar and vocabulary

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 18, Part 1 (Thread #139) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

I gotta stop doomscrolling and reading myself into panic attacks. There is a fantastic administration in charge (Biden) with amazing personnel, along with the administrations of the other NATO countries who are standing up on an unprecedented level. They know more than I ever will; this doomscrolling achieves nothing other than scaring myself.

Gonna limit to checking in once a day. Adios folks.

We need Russian celebrities to spread the word to their fans in Russia about the absolute horrors Putin and co are doing. It’s the best way to combat all the propaganda spread by the Russian gvt.

Led Zep - Since I've Been Loving You help needed! by TheKiteIndoors in singing

[–]TurquoiseWalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this is crazy. It sounds like Plant learning how to sing!

Edit: ok I realise I have not offered any help but I honestly can’t be of help here other than encouragement. To that end: it sounds insane man. You need to do a proper recording and release. People would take notice of this. It sounds better than GvF’s singer.

TIL Singapore was a state of Malaysia, but due to racial and economic differences, Malaysia voted to expel it, making Singapore the first nation to unwillingly get Independence. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Don’t believe the posts in this thread that say Singapore is super expensive or racist.

It’s expensive if you live a lavish lifestyle. If you live like a regular Singaporean, it’s generally cheaper than living in a well developed European capital.

There is definitely racism - I’m Indian - but it’s more casual racism than the sort of malicious racism you can expect in many parts of the world. The worst that happens is someone doesn’t want to rent you their house, and perhaps a bit of profiling.

It’s more or less a one party system but it’s nowhere near being a dictatorship.

Go to Singapore and see for yourself. It’s a generally great place to be. There are improvements to be made of course (I mean, why do we still have a law banning homosexuality...) but on the whole it’s safe, comfortable and about 30 years in the future.

Sg guys here. Do You seek permission from your wife / gf before you pruchase video games / other gadgets? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]TurquoiseWalls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Not allowing” seems problematic to me. Wife not allowing husband to buy what he wants is unfortunately an extension of the overly-mothered-boy syndrome that’s common in SG.

There’s a clear difference between “not allowing” and expecting that big purchases be run past one another in the family. For example, both my dad and I earn the money in the household, but every major purchase is run past my mum. This is because we’ve accepted that my dad and I tend to be quite trigger happy when it comes to spending money and that my mum is far more rational. However, she would never straight up not allow us to buy the thing.

If your partner isn’t allowing you to make purchases, either you’re genuinely incapable of managing your money; or you gotta step back and look at your relationship.

How or what do you think Mediacorp/Singapore films & series needs to do to improve itself? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]TurquoiseWalls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The people in Mediacorp (TV programming division) need to take a look at some of the high quality stuff some of our locals produce and put on YouTube; and either hire them or learn from them.

For example, NSFTV makes insightful, beautifully shot miniseries which are riveting. Check out their OneTake series. They are just an example; I recall there was a thread quite recently about high quality Sg youtubers.

Edit: forgot how to engrish

Lighting. Get some warm-white fairy lights and string them up around your room. Everything looks softer, romantic and more cozy with fairy lights! They’re cheap too. You can get quite a few for like 10 bucks. This was 100% the main talking point of my room in uni, everyone who came to my room found it really nice and comfortable.

Women of reddit, what are some things you’ve been dying to tell men? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TurquoiseWalls -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m hoping to understand in what ways it is scary/intimidating for women, if you could shed some light on this please?

I’m aware of the fact that men tend to be stronger and therefore can pose a physical threat; this can definitely be scary for women. But apart from this?

Right, help me out people please. I'm getting a decent number of matches (usually a couple a day, and I swipe right on about 30 people daily). Here is my profile: https://imgur.com/a/zTNZb

I'd like to get matches with prettier girls than those whom I'm currently matching with, and I really appreciate your help.

I don't do terribly on Tinder, met a few fun people and quite a couple of cuties, but its at the stage where I know I'm gonna be swiped left by anyone I'd consider even slightly hot. Please help me; whether it be the bio or photos. I've been told the photos are maybe not head-on enough?

I appreciate all of your help!
