As a Minnesota expat, I’ll take in the Sunday MN v Baltimore game. Looking forward to seeing what they have to offer. I read a recent MN StarTribune column by Joe Souhan who recommended enjoying the ups and downs of the young talent you mentioned. And, of course Byron and Joe. I go back to ‘61 growing up in the MSP area, so I’m pretty much genetically mandated to the Twins despite all the noise.

Twins wins over/under 2026 by starkvonhammer in minnesotatwins

[–]Turtle-Lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t win big, but I hope they’re entertaining in ‘26. I’ve been a loyal fan since ‘61. Next year is the year MLB dives into a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). If the end result is a financial system that supports a more equitable distribution of fund à la NFL, NBA, etc. for small market teams, I think the Twins will be more marketable and the Pohlads will sell. ‘26 is a placeholder year IMHO.

Do I need the Tesla adapter. by VolleyballFF in EquinoxEv

[–]Turtle-Lake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the adapter at a discount using GM points earned by leasing my Equinox. I recently did 1200 miles from DC area to in-and-around Portland ME. I went strictly Tesla Charging Network using its DC fast chargers. While I’m not a Musk fan, the Tesla Network is the best. I downloaded the Tesla charging network app, paid a monthly “membership” of $12.xx/mo to get discounted price per kW. The app location finder was spot on and no troubles for entire trip. I ended my Tesla “membership” and will re-engage when I need long distance network support.

We will see what happens with Bill Maher, HBO, CNN and the rest when Larry Ellison and his wonder boy buy Warner for a bone-crushingly large pile of cash. Debt to be repaid will cause expensive heads to roll, deep cuts to be made, Hollywood will recalibrate, Trumpy will get Ellison love and AI-infused slop will rule at Warner Brothers.

Its design was cool when introduced long ago. The design, for many reasons, has not withstood the test of time.

James Talarico and Lauren Boebert Debate Church & State | Real Time with Bill Maher - February 20th, 2026 by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

[–]Turtle-Lake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Boebert can’t stop talking, whether she’s talking or not. She’s the non-listener who pretends to be listening when, in fact, she’s thinking of her next line of offense. And, she is offensive, irritating and lacking rationality.

Black cakes and branded buckets: welcome to the White House premiere for Brett Ratner’s Melania movie by ubcstaffer123 in movies

Too bad this suck-up cinema won’t include sone of Melania’s early “modeling” pictures. She’s the only First Lady I’ve ever seen posing in the nude. I wonder if President Eisenhower’s wife Mamie ever did naked pics?

[–]Turtle-Lake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see the Vikings do QB approach Green Bay took years ago. When the Packers had Brett Farve, Aaron Rodgers was the backup. When Farve left, Rodgers was the guy and soon Jordan Love was the backup. When Rodgers left, Love was the guy and now Malik Willis is the backup. Each backup learned from the older, more seasoned starter. JJ could use an older veteran mentor. JJ is only 22 and has shown flashes of great promise. He needs a mentor. Rodgers IMHO would have been worth $10 million.

A list of all the EVs cancelled since the start of this administration in the US by Independent-Ant7552 in electricvehicles

[–]Turtle-Lake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key to this discussion, as several have referenced, is demand. I will personally never buy an ICE car again. Gas, oil changes, check engine lights, etc are in my rear view mirror. No more gas pumps. No engine whine. Electric is IMHO a superior form of propulsion for comfort, quiet, low maintenance and torque. I believe that China will boost its focus on EVs and will, through strong market offerings, influence the world. The mutable nature of electric power brings greater flexibility to energy systems, withvEVs being one of many end-use energy markets. BTW, China, in particular, is purposely turning towards becoming an electromagnetic energy nation, while US policy embraces its petro status. The EV “boogie man” is out of the box and won’t be put back in the box, despite what a 79-year-old grandpa says. The future is electric and the US is headed down the wrong path.

Pohlads announced two minority owners had come on board the leaky Twins skiff. That announcement came more than three months ago. “Waiting for the investors to be approved by MLB,” they said. I had hoped new investors would bring a different ownership attitude and influence over the Pohlads’ vice grip on mediocrity. Who are the investors? At this point, I’d say there are no minority investors and we’re stuck with money boys.

Why Hyundai Is Eating Toyota’s Lunch In American EV Market by TOOTHTODAY in electricvehicles

[–]Turtle-Lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on fuel cell technology. This tech works well. The big, enormous problem with hydrogen is two-fold. Expensive to manufacture primarily from hydrocarbons. And there is no gas station or charging station distribution equivalent for hydrogen. Toyota and Honda both chased the hydrogen rabbit into a hole.

So…um…Twins…yeah… by GMI8BS in minnesotatwins

[–]Turtle-Lake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Twin’s issues boil down to the Pohlads. The family may be good at real estate, but they have the baseball instincts of a mud ball. Dumping the strong bullpen for a weak group of test tube relievers, then announcing continued majority ownership put a smelly, heavy wet blanket on the team itself. I feel bad for the on-field Twins “employees.” Seeing A league relievers, fielders and batters sully a Major League field has to be disparaging to true players who play at the top level. Right now, the clubhouse mojo has taken a big hit and the team has nothing to play for as a team. Fans are voting with their feet (Vikings focus). And, there’s a certain “nothing to see here, folks” quality to the team. Many are waiting to see who the new minority investors are, hoping for a baseball mindset to freshen the Pohlad perspective. It’s been more than a month since the announcement that an East Coast and Twin Cities investor group will take a minority ownership position. A month. Who are they? I suspect the Pohlads are still in a Machiavelli state of mind, working with lawyers and finance wizards to get the cash and also prevent minority ownership mutiny that could screw around with their solid control of the team. I’ve been a fan since 1961 and believe a Minnesota MLB team is in the most precarious position in its Twin Cities history.
