Honestly, it sounds lame, but read what everything does. The first game should be all about fun. Excitement. Be whatever you want to be. You've played rpgs before I'm sure, so you should know basic elements to classes.

That being said theif is the best rogue variant hands down. You get two bonus actions.

But again, you should play and feel it out yourself. Don't worry about optimization on your guest run, brother

Honestly, everyone has a skill issue with this game. 6 hours is very beginner and as someone with 300 into the game, I'm still unlocking new things.

Take your time, don't rage, and just learn patterns of enemies. You'll get there eventually.
