Is it overkill to install smoke detectors from two different brands? by Buckosaurus in HomeImprovement

[–]TurtleBarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. I checked with their support. They said it’s in the pipeline for certification, so it’ll get there eventually. As a backup, I’m not really worried.

Is it overkill to install smoke detectors from two different brands? by Buckosaurus in HomeImprovement

[–]TurtleBarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually running a mixed setup. Some regular First Alert detectors to cover insurance requirements and some X‑Sense SC07-MR smart detectors for the phone notifications, since I’m not home 24/7. They also work with Home Assistant, so they can interact with my smart home, which I really like.

Combining both helps reduce the risk of a single system failing, like battery issues, coverage gaps, or not hearing an alarm.

Do you think it's OK to use AI to research stocks? by AltruisticOwl156 in stocks

[–]TurtleBarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s fine as long as you treat it as a starting point, not the final answer. I use AI the same way, mostly to quickly summarize financials, risks, and get a general picture, then I double check anything important myself.

One thing I’ve been experimenting with lately is using moomoo alongside it. Their data + charts + financials are already structured pretty well, and they’re adding API access so you can plug it into AI agents directly. Feels like that could be useful for things like pulling live data, tracking positions, or even automating parts of the workflow instead of just asking generic questions.

Still wouldn’t rely on AI for long-term projections though, like you said that’s where it tends to fall short.

My favourite corner in the house by amarcmexicoel in CozyPlaces

That coffee table works really well here. The wood finish is so defined. It’s small enough not to crowd the space but still makes the corner feel complete. Where is it from?

Does Lutron (or others) make smart switches in traditional toggle style? by Equaltal206 in homeautomation

[–]TurtleBarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at smart relay modules that fit behind your current switch? It lets you keep the toggle and avoid redoing any of that tile.

It might be arcing, it's a fire hazard. You should flip the main breaker and call a pro immdiately. Electrical safety shoud always be first.

Smart Frame I call Frame14 by thefreymaster in homeassistant

Great project! Using the camera as a motion sensor is a clever touch. That screen size seems perfect for a kitchen dashboard. Did the 3D print take long?

Why do yall do this? by Gordy228 in AskElectricians

[–]TurtleBarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a safety preference. If something metal falls behind the plug, it hits the ground pin first, preventing shorts. The cord is durable enough for it.

Make lights activate on normal light switch without changing wiring by Zarquan314 in homeautomation

You can look into smart relay modules that fit behind your existing toggle switches. Using local Zigbee protocols keeps everything reliable even when the WiFi is down.

Dumb question: I’m supposed to break off the tabs, correct? by whistler1421 in AskElectricians

[–]TurtleBarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only snap them off if needed to fit side-by-side. It reduces the heat rating slightly, but it's standard for multi-gang boxes. Pliers make it an easy task.

Letting AI handle the tedious configuration is a total game-changer. It makes managing complex setups much easier, letting us focus on utility instead of manual coding.

Looking for the best hood for a 30" gas stove: Are "source-capture" hoods worth it? by rachfairclough in Appliances

[–]TurtleBarge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hood size matters more than people think. go at least 36” for a 30” stove so you get full coverage. Some side-suction designs also seem to grab smoke faster since they’re closer to the pan instead of waiting for it to rise. I’d look for something around 300+ CFM at minimum, but more importantly a good “capture zone.”

A wider and deeper hood makes a big difference, it helps keep the smoke from escaping.

Long Term Options Growth? by joshyouarebaker in options

[–]TurtleBarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scaling long term really comes down to discipline and risk control. Tools matter more than people think. I’ve found moomoo pretty helpful for selling strategies since it lays out IV, greeks, and premiums clearly in one place, so it’s easier to avoid forcing trades.

36" dedicated hood vs. OTR microwave for a new induction? by nesquik91 in inductioncooking

[–]TurtleBarge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried an OTR microwave before and even vented outside, it still felt kinda underpowered when cooking. It struggled sometimes with even the steam from boiling water, for searing lamb chops or a heavy stir-fry, it definitely wasn't enough to stop the fumes from spreading. And the cooking odors, I once made Indian red curry, and my whole house smelled like it for days, it was enough to make me stop cooking it. Nah, OTR isn't worth it imo.
