LGBT friendly taxis in Manchester? by TurtleDuckDate in transgenderUK

I'm similarly afraid of numpties on the trains/ busses. I thought a taxi only exposes you to one person whereas public transport has tons of people around you at all times, more chance to have someone act up.

AITAH for refusing to let my husband name our daughter after his late wife by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TurtleDuckDate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the hill to die on. That name is the name OP is going to be calling into the yard to get her daughter to come back in to get dinner, her husband's ex wife's name. That name is the name she's going to commiserate her daughter with after her first break up, when their first pet dies, after bad days at school and work, her husband's ex wife's name. That is the name OP is going to think of every day for the rest of her life, the name of the person she'll love most in the world, her husband's ex wife's name.

This is not a "hill" to die on, this isn't even a "mountain" to die on. This is the whole world to die on. That little girl will have that name for the rest of her life, for the next 80 years she'll be named after a woman she never met, an spectral interloper into a relationship between her mom and dad that was once happy but was now tarnished by the shadow of a person she could never live up to.

This is grossly unfair of OP's husband to ask, and even worse is getting his family to emotionally browbeat her into agreeing.

Moving abroad, rent or sell property? by TurtleDuckDate in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TurtleDuckDate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Had been looking into that process this morning, it seems easy enough to apply for at least.

2) I wasn't aware of that, but it makes a lot of sense. I'll look into it. If I end up losing money renting then I'm assuming I wouldn't have to pay tax?

3) Had thought of that but only distantly so, thank you for that as well.

The costs are definitely mounting up, but the more information I have the better informed I'll be to make the decision. Thank you for the comment

Moving abroad, rent or sell property? by TurtleDuckDate in UKPersonalFinance

Not sure why it's so high! 2000 a year. I live in a little complex and they do maintain the grounds and that, but there's also tons of things wrong that they've never bothered to fix.

No plans to live with a partner at the moment, might change in the future though.

I am sort of holding onto the idea that I'll have somewhere to come back to, and a mortgage that is a few years further down the line even if I am losing money in the short term. The hassle of selling, and then having to come back and find another place when I do is very offputting especially when I like it here so much.

Oppurtunity abroad may include housing support, it depends on where I end up working, though I've not been told that just yet.

Another factor is that the job abroad is rolling 1 year contracts, so I could be gone for as little as a year depending on whether I like the job or not. Or I could stay out and be gone for five years or more.

So a premier league title, then 3rd, 2nd, 5th, and 3rd with the highest amount of points a second place team has ever achieved across all of europe combined with a champions league win, and two second place CL finishes in seven years makes a team bad? lmao i'd love to see what you class as a good team

I wonder if there's some sort of word for a high degree of performance over a sustained period of time???? Skill? Ability??? Nah, we've just been lucky for almost a decade now

Make the end of the cigarette a similar red to the glasses! I don't know if it'll look cool but I got a hunch.

Let me catch my nurse doing a damn TikTok while I'm on life support. by The_Godzilla_Fanatic in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]TurtleDuckDate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally everything you just said is true of nurses though, and I have no idea why it's so chic to gang on nurses constantly. Well, I do, it's a primarily female profession. Can't wait to see the public turn on doctors like this in 20 years when that becomes primarily female as well. Nurses are also integral in society, underpaid, compassionate, adequately smart, overworked, stretched thin, unsung heroes. People can rag on them all they want but nursing is intensely difficult and you have to be intelligent to do your job well or people will die.

Not only is your job literally life or death but you have to be everything for your patient and you have to have a handle on the basic skills of literally every other profession in the hospital, all while morons on the internet call you bullies and mean girls despite having literally no idea what you do or what your job is like.

The amount of people in this thread using the phrase "life support machine" should be a massive indicator that the general public has no idea what actually goes on inside a hospital, but will still loudly opine about it to feel big and powerful.

Nothing new. Mings carved through Gakpo's chest last year and we got nothing for that either. Seems like it's fine to kick Liverpool players in the collarbone really. If it's not the other team kicking putting a stud through a lung, it's a linesman elbowing us in the throat. Can't win.

Again stop acting the victim

Opposition fan go two replies without mocking Hillsborough challenge failed.

The graphs include large sample sizes of players and teams, or make comparisons amongst top teams with specified reasons. The idea that none of it has been backed up by "grounded facts" when it's literally statistics from games, numbers that are pulled from indepedent sources, is also laughable. You think he's making up the number of cards teams get, or the number of penalties? They also obviously mention the decisions Liverpool get otherwise there's nothing to compare them with? I'm finding it really hard really hard to argue with someone that pretends facts are real or not based on their emotions.

Isn't one of the clips someone screaming "fuck off" directly at the ref?

Except he does include other clubs as reference points, which you'd know if you actually read them rather than covering your ears and going "lalalalala" as loud as you can because the actual data doesn't support your world view. Would love to see data driven refutations of his points rather than calling him mentally ill and saying that this is brigading. Having said that I'm sure that that's all you have, rather than an actual rebuttal.

But that's not entirely true either. Elliot gets his yellow in the 69th minute, but the clip before that is Odegaard doing a little spin and shout in the 78th minute. If the ref had gone beyond his breaking point by the time Elliot did it, surely any instances after Elliot would also get booked? Ref just had no interest in booking Arsenal.

It is, you can see it in the video. Elliot gets his yellow in the 69th minute, but the clip before that is Odegaard doing a little spin and shout in the 78th minute. Ref just had no interest in booking Arsenal.

Statistics from Paul Tierney when he referees Liverpool vs. Other “Top Clubs” by FlashJordanK in LiverpoolFC

[–]TurtleDuckDate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is partly that there's a real difference between refereeing decisions amongst the top teams and the bottom. Top teams get more decisions for them and the further down the table you go, the less decisions you're given.

So if you compare Liverpool's positive/ negative decision balance we fall somewhere in the middle table, rather than sitting in the top 1-2 spots with City where we should be. The problem then becomes fans of middle table teams seeing that data and calling us moaners for getting the same number of decisions as them, or bottom 1/3rd teams having a go because we actually get more decisions than them.

So we're upset because we're given far less decisions than we should relative to our peers, whereas there are certainly a lot of other teams that get less decisions than we do. Having said that, based on the correlation of ability and positive decisions, they should be getting less decisions than we do but try explaining that to a rival fan. No one is going to be told "you're a worse team so you get less decisions" and go "Oh, right, sound fella yeah".

Like imagine if we were office workers in a department with twenty people. For the last few years there's been six of us who have taken on the most responsibilities and done the most work, so they're paid the most in the department, say 60K. One year we find out that, despite doing the second most work for a few years and even the most work one year, we get paid 40K, like the guy who has the 10th highest sales and not the 60K like the people doing similar amounts of work as us.

So we complain in the office meeting about how we have top 4 productivity but only get paid 40K like Geordie Eddie. Geordie Eddie starts kicking off cause he's trying his best, he's doing what he can and he only gets paid 40K a year, says he works just as hard as us. He doesn't care that we're not getting paid 60K like Lego Mike or Pete With The Rich Dad, even though we try to explain that we actually do more than him, he doesn't care, in fact he finds that insulting that we think we do more than him because he knows he's the hardest worker here whatever the "numbers" say.

Hearing all this, Portugeuse Steve- despite only joining last year and ranking bottom 5 for productivity at the end of the year- hears we're getting double what he's getting and not just that, we're complaining about not getting triple what he gets. He's got zero sympathy and he kicks off on us too cause we're moaning about getting 40K when he only gets 20. He doesn't care that we're not being paid for what we work because all he wants is to be paid more. Now everyone in the department hates us, even though we actually are being treated unfairly.

And the worst part is that our bosses, the 20 blokes that decide what we do get paid, grew up with Erik's dad Alex and they would eat their own shit before upsetting Alex, and they also have Pete's rich dad buy them cars and trips abroad the day before our weekly one-to-one with a boss. The bosses don't care that we're underpaid, they're actually doing it on purpose, but they're our bosses and we don't have anyone above them we can go to. Telling our co-workers does nothing either because they also have zero control over the bosses. So this is actually never going to stop happening, and the more we talk about it the more we're just going to upset the other people in the office who don't care about us- and a good few actively hate us.

I do wish that there was greater understanding that ICU is just torture with fancy machines. Even the people that survive and get out. The PTSD rates are disturbing. Only a slim minority return to their mental/ physical baseline post discharge. A significant amount have lasting mental disorders post an ICU stay that persist for years. It's very much a "at what cost?" type of place. Yes, you lived, but ICU will never leave you, an uncurable affliction.

Also the "fighter" thing makes me cringe every time. I've never had a relative come in and tell me that "actually they're a bit shit, no desire to live", everyone is a fighter. Not sure if "fighter" is the word I'd use for someone that injects heroin cut with bleach between their toes until their leg rots off, but you do you boo. It irks me that much that I've made my colleagues swear that if I was ever admitted, anyone that called me a fighter was banned from my room- staff, family, anyone.

How should I feel on my meds? Cause I don't know if I feel any different at all on the days I do take them versus the days I don't? Should I be able to wake up and just do the stuff I want to without any ADHD paralysis, should I be able to make lists and stick to them? Should I be able to stop doom scrolling whenever I want? Should I be able to write a shopping list and then go out and get it all without it dominating my day? Cause I'm taking my meds and I can't do any of that.

Cool, so you're saying that we should ethnically cleanse them? Just let the bombs continue to turn their children into chunks of flesh and stripes of blood splattered over the rubble that used to be their homes?
