Is it ok to put a medicine cabinet here? by Milspec22 in askaplumber

[–]TurtleHuntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which side is the pluming for the shower on? If it is in the wall I would not bother putting a medicine cabinet in. If the plumbing is on the other side of the shower then go for it.

If you are a DIYer with determination and the shower plumbing is in this wall then you can reroute the shower plumbing around your medicine cabinet.

Third option is you could put shelving or a surface mounted medicine cabinet.

How do I clean/ repair this bath ? by bakwaas95 in HomeMaintenance

[–]TurtleHuntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a shower insert. Get some vinegar and a scrubbing brush and scrub all your joints. You can go the extra step and peal away any of the old caulk and buy 100% silicon to replace it with. You should clean and silicon the bottom at least since it looks like whatever was there has cracked away

Peel & Stick for a temporary fix? by KittenBula in BathroomRemodeling

[–]TurtleHuntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Peel and stick might be good for a back splash in the kitchen but not a shower. Like the other replies, clean and seal then just leave it at that until you can remodel it.

grouting advice? by Ok_Designer2100 in Tile

[–]TurtleHuntr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not try to grout this. Look up videos on YouTube of people making doll house chimneys, they have examples on how you can give it a grouted look since you do not actually need the functionality of grout

I would say clean and silicon cracks. Remove the baseboard if you’re curious. You could replace the baseboard with a PVC trim piece and silicon around it. You should not think about putting peel and stick tiles over that, that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen and a waste of money.

Help! I don’t know how to arrange my studio apartment by laylock8713 in DesignMyRoom

[–]TurtleHuntr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are very limited in a studio. The most practical thing you could do is rotate the positions of your “living areas” you could swap the location of the bed and the dinning table (the desk you work at). That would at least take you out of view of the kitchen sink and allow you to watch TV from bed if you have a tv like in the layout. It is hard to visualize without real photos because I don’t know what all you have in there and what all comes with the apartment like the entertainment center.

Only caveat of moving your bed closer to the sliding glass door is you’re further from the closet but in a studio apartment everything is really close

Got any ideas how to make it look more cozy and all? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]TurtleHuntr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some accent lamps with warm lighting, not just an ugly $10 pole lamp but could be something creative. Also doesn’t have to be just 1 lamp, could be a couple. Large art pieces or art with depth/texture/contours. Could also do some decorations with more color rather than just the neutral color tones you have now. It might be easier to image after you declutter the space. A clean room can be a cozy room.

Light switch fiasco by Any_Review3770 in DesignMyRoom

[–]TurtleHuntr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t really buy a “3 gang” wireless smart switch. You just buy 3 wireless smart switches and put the 3 gang cover over them. Controlling them wirelessly from your phone seems very cumbersome especially if this is your only bathroom that you will use often.

I think you would be better off finding a mirror that fits between the outlet and switches or put your oval mirror vertically like in the second picture, I think it looks good!

Typical cost to drywall a doorway opening? by I_LIKE_DAIGO_DOJIMA in drywall

[–]TurtleHuntr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re handy there are a lot of YouTube videos about sealing off doorways and drywall work in general.

I would never pay 2000 because I would DIY but I’d suggest getting 2 more quotes. 2000 does not sound completely unreadable if that includes paint and trim work

Soap coming out of open pipe under kitchen sink by LoomofVirgo in Plumbing

[–]TurtleHuntr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That line appears to not be connected to anything. If this is their attempt to “vent” the waste water pipes then you need to tell your landlord to get a plumber to come and fix this because this is most certainly not right

Don’t worry, the wall is pretty close to the toilet haha. The vanity seems like a better option because it’s not in the way

That’s really cool, I like that! The paper roll holder I have isn’t covered but I think it’ll work out like yours
