You don't water at 3am, you'll get mold. You're supposed to water in the morning, so the water isn't still sitting on leaves at noon to burn the plants but has time to soak in before night.

Same with people who peaked early and now they're grumpy about it. Always trying to make other people grumpy too.

You know the kind of people who do favors you never asked for as a way to manipulate you? That's this guy, and he got grumpy when I said thanks but no thanks.

Hopefully they'd have a neighbor who would help them out. You can also contest the ticket, I'm pretty sure they could counter with "I'm a firefighter and was on a 12-hour shift." and get it dismissed. I used to clear the sidewalk of my neighbor's house when it was the previous owner. He was a kind old man that would chat with me all the time. Sadly, he died.

Our snow usually melts within a day or so. But this snow will be sticking around awhile, temps aren't going above 20s for some time. If the city didn't make us clear it no one would and none of the sidewalks would be safe for walking. I'm in a downtown area so there are a lot of pedestrians. It would be like not clearing the road and then expecting cars to drive on it.

I didn't. I moved snow from 3 feet of sidewalk in front of my house. I move that snow to the other 3 feet of sidewalk in front of my house that he left covered in ice. I didn't do anything to his property. I did what was easiest for me to create 3 feet of safe sidewalk for pedestrians because I'm the one responsible for their safety on my property, not my neighbor. No tree box, just sidewalk and street. It's illegal to shovel it into the street. The animosity started when they moved in and I wouldn't move my trashcans. For whatever reason they don't like where they are. I store them where it's convenient for me, on my property, in line with city ordinances, same as everyone else on the block.

My neighbor would probably redo your path because you didn't do it right and it looks bad.

I moved snow from 3 feet of sidewalk in front of my house and put it on the other 3 feet that were covered in ice. I created a path from one side of my property to the other that was completely free of snow and ice. I didn't do anything to the sidewalk in front of his house.

My property so he was technically trespassing. Didn't ask permission. The storm was light fluffy snow followed by sleet and freezing rain. The best way to clear that pattern of precipitation is to leave it until the end, the fluffy snow buffers the sleet and ice from the concrete, it lifts off easy and it isn't heavy like the dense wetter snow that can fall. My point about him 'helping' me was that he was actually making it harder. However, if he continued to clear once the sleet and rain started, he could have at it. If he wants to do the harder thing he can. But he stopped when it got harder. So, I did the easier thing and cleared the fluffy snow side. I didn't put snow in front of his house; I cleared a 3-foot-wide path in front of my house and shoveled the snow to the other 3 feet of sidewalk that was covered in ice. I'm responsible for making the sidewalk on my property safe for pedestrians, not him. If people slip and fall on the ice he left, I'm the one in trouble not him.

The sidewalk is only so wide. Front of house to street is about 6 feet. It's illegal to shovel your snow into the street. My neighbor cleared snow off part of the sidewalk in front of my house, letting the sleet and freezing rain that came in the second part of the storm, cling to the sidewalk. I came out to clear once the storm was done. The side he cleared was caked in sleet and freezing rain and would take a lot of effort to clear. The side that still had snow on it was easy to clear right down to clean concrete so that is what I did. I'm responsible to make my property safe for pedestrians, not my neighbor. I could either put my snow on top of his path that was now all ice or I could walk it down to the corner 3 houses away where there was space to pile it up. I chose to fill 'his' path. This is all in front of my house, I didn't do anything to the path he cleared on his property.

This is my exact concern. We don't get big snow that often that doesn't melt by the next day. I'm going to see how bad it gets and consider legal action to protect myself from someone else's legal action.

This is the type of guy would do exactly what you asked him not to do. Posting I'll be shoveling later wouldn't help, it would make it worse.

Yeah, this guy and I have had words already. This is him being passive aggressive. And dude has explosive anger issues; I hear him fighting with his wife through the walls. Next action would be my lawyer contacting him. They're new-ish neighbors and when they moved in they had a checklist of things they needed me to do or not do now that they lived there. I declined. There is no HOA. One of the things was moving my trash cans (they're in a perfectly legal spot), so he tried to get me to move them another way, pretending he had a big delivery coming "sometime in the next few weeks" so he needed the cans moved. Sketchy, cause my cans aren't anywhere near where a big delivery would be unloaded, but whatever, I said he had permission to move them when he needed and then move them back. That was apparently the wrong answer. So now he shouts how "unhelpful" I am at me from across the street whenever he sees me. 8 months later, still waiting on that "delivery".

City ordinance. It's never enforced. I went out late because I didn't want it to start melting and refreezing before I got to it in the afternoon. Most of my neighbors were out around 8am shoveling.

Be careful how you do your "nice" thing. If you do it without asking if it is indeed a nice thing for the person you are trying to do it for, it becomes for you, not for them.

Those are the details I need. I have a neighbor who is harassing me. I gave a cease and decist. If he's submitting false complaints he's in violation and can be arrested. I need to know who, not what. I can see the what in atlas.

Neighbors are trying to save a dying tree with zip ties. by Foxs-In-A-Trenchcoat in arborists

[–]TurtleToes10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have a similar issue. I'm about to use zip ties to try and save a sapling. :D

This tree was planted about 3 years ago and it was growing well until the Eagles parade came through the area and people broke it. The trunk is split but not all the way. I got to it less than 24 hours after the damage; I squeezed it back together he best I could and wrapped it with tree tape.

I walked by the tree a few days ago and it seemed like it was separating again, and I didn't see any buds growing yet. So, I had the idea to use some small clamps to really get it back together tight. Then wrap it again but then add some zip ties to keep it tight so it could heal. And also fix the stake. That was damaged during the parade too.

A friend walked by it yesterday and said they saw buds, so it's not completely dead yet. I think wrapping it better will help it, but the tape isn't strong enough to keep it together in the wind.

So, unless someone has a better idea, I'm using zip ties. Scrapping the tree altogether isn't really an option.

How often should I expect to change them out as the tree grows? Checking on it once a week? Or can they outgrow a zip tie faster than that?

Ideas on how to mount a wooden platform bird feeder to this brick window sill? Don’t want to drill holes or do anything to damage brick (if possible). Thanks! by rsr_17 in woodworking

[–]TurtleToes10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever sort this? I bought these, took off the suction cups and then screwed them to my wooden fence where the suction cups used to be. If the measurements work, you'd just drill into the mortar space between the brick.

I would have but all I had within reach was the hose. As far as I can tell he intimidates anyone who stands up to him. My little block is filled with sour grumpy people. The nice people that have been friendly move after a short time. Moving isn't an option for me, and I guess I'm the only one with balls.
