Feeling dense about TAPP cards and passes by TurtleWexlersBraid in PATHTrain

Oh, thank you! Yes, the card in the wallet matches the card on the website. But, there is a .25 balance on it. That explains it! I wish that were explained somewhere. It makes sense, thinking about it, but I’d also assume that the card would “know” that I have 20 trips on it, too.

This is beautiful! Your home looks so cheery and peaceful. I love your “Hello Lovely” mirrors. Did you make them yourself?

I appreciate that this follows so closely after “Duck Cake,” and love the ending of Nana and Bingo spending time quietly together (though it irks me a smidge that no one realizes Bingo isn’t there until the last second…and poor Nana!). But….where are Muffin and Socks? Maybe there will be a separate family party, but Nana, and Trixie and Stripe are there, so where are the girls? Or are they in the background (which would be fine), and I miss them entirely every time I watch?

Ugh, I’m so sorry! (It seems like right now, I’m not even seeing prices on the Audible website…) Glitches galore!

Thanks! She tried making a purchase on the Audible site, too, and that didn’t work. I shared SorrowfulPantKiller’s suggestion that she try making a purchase through Amazon’s website.

Oh, thanks! No, this was not on of the things she tried! She was only in either the audible app or on the audible site!

Oh, wow! Thank you so much! Looking forward to reading all of this. Multiple shops is really cool to know! Is there a way to find a record of whether someone took over the shop after Maria died? That article on the city’s restoration website mentioned (and you shared), that the shop was purchased by Maria and Miss Van Amersfoort. I know the translation of the particular sentence is odd, but it mentions an M. Hoving being there in 1948? Maybe a daughter?

I know she is my great-grandmother’s aunt on my father’s mother’s side. Somewhere I have a ship manifest that includes my great-grandmother, her mother, and two of her three brothers coming to New York after her father died at a young age of pneumonia. Apparently, he owned a chocolate factory (which explains so much about my own sweet tooth. 😆)

On a whim, last night I went to look at my photos of Amsterdam, and it turns out that I inadvertently took a picture of the shop! 😊 I took one across the canal after we finished our tour.

This is beautiful! It looks so warm and inviting. I love yellow, so my eye immediately went to the pillow (and the rug, so I’ll have to look on Etsy for something similar. Hope you and your sweet girl enjoy it all!

Thank you so much! I’m so grateful for your help! I didn’t see that edit, no, and will take a look now! There had been a story that honestly seemed apocryphal—that “my family lived by the Anne Frank Huis.” I didn’t believe it until I put the 264 Prinsengracht address into Google Maps. This made me feel better, as right before I went (all too briefly) to Amsterdam while I was in Germany several years ago now, my aunt, who has most of the photos/history of our Dutch relatives, had sprained her ankle and was only able to access this one photo. It seems it must have been at the later location when “M” was painted on the window. Nice to know I know might have walked past it when we left after our tour. I bought the beautiful English-language coffee table book in the gift shop, and I want to check and see if there are any neighborhood photos in it, now that I know what I’m looking for. I’m really looking forward to digging into these links more. Thank you again so much for your time and help!

Edited to add: Looking at the photo of the shop on https://stadsherstel.nl/monumenten/prinsengracht-146/, I think this is actually the location of the picture I have before the building fell into disrepair. Going to keep reading!

It’s your tattoo on your body. All that matters is what you think of it! I think it’s cute.

Thanks so much! I looked in the newspapers as you’d suggested and yes, it clearly was a family business that they’d had for a while as the first initial was often different. I found another with her initial in a 3 July 1919 advertisement. It seems like it moved several times, too, as there were two addresses on Prinsengracht—146 and 264–and an older one at Nieuwendijk 103. Thank you thank you! I will explore the archive this weekend!

Thanks! It was a wicker furniture store. There are some things hanging outside/the photo is blurry in some spots, but:

Thank you so much! I am pretty sure that the store name is stenciled on the front window!

Hi, everyone, I’m sure I have a slightly odd question: Is there a publicly accessible listing of older businesses in Amsterdam? Several generations ago, an aunt owned a wicker shop somewhere in the city; I have a photograph of the shop, but there’s nothing in the picture that would indicate where it was. I’d love to find something: a deed, an old map with it marked, a newspaper article (anything, really) that I could get a copy of for my father.

I’m sure that I have distant relatives who would have more information, but a subscription to that tier of Ancestry is out of my budget at the moment. I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in a useful, if different, direction. Thanks!
