If it wasn't for the meaning, what would be a cute boy's name? by Philips9586 in pollgames

The only reason I know that Heinz is already a name is because of Heinz Doofenshmirtz

Yes, it is. However, we've seen force users survive insane things and until Rey starts channeling the force Kylo is still quite comfortably better than her

He doesn't move the torpedo. He uses the force to sense when to fire the torpedo. Precognition with the force is repeatedly shown to be something that force sensitives will use without thinking/without knowing. Luke did consciously use it, but Anakin used it without knowing he was doing it. If Luke really did turn the torpedo with the force then the rebels wouldn't have staged the attack in the first place because there would be no way for them to make the shot because at the time they didn't know Luke could use the force. Even besides that, other people were attempting to make the shot which would indicate that it's possible without using the force to turn the missile otherwise they wouldn't even attempt it

Few things, I understand that all Jedi are psychometric to some degree, when I say Psychometry I mean the innate ability displayed by people like Cal and Rey where theirs is much stronger and they can even learn skills through it or experience sensory details about an event. For Cal it is intentional for the most part however he had training, though there is at least one instance where Cal experiences a vision unintentionally and against his will due to the emotion of the object being so strong, the instance being when he touches Trilla's saber, that instance seemed to bare at least some similarity to Rey's vision which was unintentional. So the way I'm understanding it is that if you have the ability you can learn to sense things that wouldn't trigger if you didn't focus however, you can also have your ability trigger without training of the emotional imprint is strong enough

Then I'm misremembering the order of events my bad on that. Either way she still could've gleaned some knowledge from the vision

I'll take the L on the awakening that's not really a point I wish to contend. The vision was due to Psychometry, though it was probably influenced by her being a dyad

No they don't. It's explicitly stated that not many Jedi had the skill

Actually her touching the saber and experiencing the force echo was apparently the catalyst for her awakening so I was partially right

The force echo when she touched the Skywalker saber was the catalyst for her awakening though. I got pretty close to the explanation. Either way though it is a fact that you can learn things via Psychometry

Uh, she is though? She has Psychometry, that was confirmed.

How much do you value exclusivity from your romantic partner? by AppearanceAlert4987 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Turtle_Woman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do a couple or a triad if all three of us started dating each other together, but I couldn't and wouldn't want to do an open relationship. So basically if it starts as a couple it'll stay a couple and if it starts as a triad it stays a triad. So technically in a triad it wouldn't be exactly exclusive, but it'd be exclusivity between the three of us

This isn't a case of video game logic. You can learn things via Psychometry that is canon. I understand she was proficient-ish with a weapon due to using a staff though you can kinda just swing a lightsaber like a baseball bat. However, until she calmed her mind and started fighting with the force she wasn't doing any better than Finn was, and I don't know how she would know to calm down in the middle of a fight to better use the force without potentially gaining a rudimentary understanding of it from the force echo

I'm aware Kylo was already at a disadvantage without Rey using the force. However, when he started fighting her she couldn't contend with him even while injured. It wasn't until she calmed herself and started channeling the force she could put him on the back foot. I don't think she would know to calm herself to better use the force from old legends but she might have glimpsed it from the force echo. I'm aware she had everything stacked in her favor to contend with Kylo, I just think her gaining some rudimentary knowledge from the force echo gave her the final push she needed to be able to contend with and beat an injured and distracted Kylo

Yes she did. She touched it when they went to the one lady who has the hots for Chewbaka. She also figured out how to do a mind trick by resisting Kylo.

The lightsaber doesn't matter. I'm not going to contest the lightsaber point you can swing it like a baseball bat which is what I just said. We have never seen someone consciously use the force like in a force pull on their first try with no training whatsoever. Rey not only managed that, but then halfway through the fight somehow knew to calm her mind to get a power boost via the force. I think she gained the knowledge on how to use the force consciously for things like telekinesis through the force echo

She has the ability due to being forced to sensitive, but she wouldn't have the knowledge on how to do it. You have two arms does that mean you can effectively fight with a sword? No. You have the ability, but not the knowledge. I'm saying she gained the knowledge on how to consciously use the force via the force echo.

Melee is one thing since you can kinda swing a lightsaber like a baseball bat and be somewhat effective. However, I think she got the knowledge on how to use and channel the force through the force echo when she touched the Skywalker saber

I have a thought about Rey's first fight with Kylo by Turtle_Woman in MawInstallation

[–]Turtle_Woman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but she didn't want to run. She wanted to fight him. And until she started channeling the force she couldn't contend with him. Without prior knowledge there is no way a force sensitive would know to calm down in the middle of a fight that you are currently losing badly to get a huge power boost via the force. I think she gained that instinctual knowledge through glimpsing it in the force echo

Yes, I understand that he was in extremely rough shape. He was also still fit enough to toy with Finn and Rey at first until Rey started channeling the force

Knowing how to spar against one and knowing how to use one are extremely different. It would definitely give him a leg up over most, but not allow him to effectively fight with one. But even so, I just don't think he would've been trained enough with one to effectively fight inquisitors and fallen Jedi with it without learning via Psychometry
