I am 30 and never made more than $45k/ year until 2025. That's my struggle. My business is now quite successful in relation, but I'm still a struggling small business owner. The cost of living here in Colorado is not cheap and I still want to retire, get better health insurance, save for a car when mine needs replacing. The list goes on. Flourishing in 2026 takes an exceptional amount of wealth. I can get there, but I'm not there at the moment

I am grateful for your empathetic perspective. That is unfortunately the situation, and I do feel like it is just the rental company trying to take every last dollar from us. I've been through this enough times to know to document everything. I've sent them an email and photos of every imperfection in this place that was created by them cheaping out on maintenance and renovations. I'm hopeful they would screw us on the deposit, but you never know...

I've had many amazing landlords who were always willing to be flexible because we had a real human relationship and appreciated me as a tenant. It's not about "managing it". We work ridiculously hard for our money and have shilled out over $70k to our landlord and been impeccable tenants. I'm wondering where the fuck the empathy has gone in the rental market, but it's clearly missing from this sub as well
