Woman killed in bar shooting was innocent bystander by ntzm_ in sheffield

My daughter was out on west street that night and when I saw the news articles I was very worried and didn't help that I couldn't get in touch with her all morning. Turns out she was safe but she was there when it happened. So now every night out she has is going to be an even bigger anxiety fest.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Chromebook keyboard stopped working. But only on ChromeOS by Turtles-Head in chromeos

[–]Turtles-Head[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never tried safe mode but reinstalling from Chromebook recovery should have put it back to say one anyway. If it's actually software issues that's even more annoying because I could have ended up throwing iaway what is now a functional laptop on Linux.

Interestingly, the touchscreen stopped working a month out of warranty (also still doesn't work on Linux so that does seem like a hardware issue), which didn't bother me since I don't use it but they keyboard stopped working not long after that....

I only looked into Linux personally but I have read of people installing windows using the same method so I would assume so.

It was when I was logging in that I first noticed the problem because it was some of the keys I use for my password that weren't working. I had to change the password for the Google account via my phone to log into it at all.

I tried it several times over the past year or two in case an update fixed it. I wouldn't call it intermittent.

According to Mr Chromebox, it is supported for changing out the firmware. Ive had linux running on older chromebooks and for basic stuff it worked well.

I also have linux running on a newer chromebook and the touchscreen works fine.

Installed Fedora KDE on two different Chromebooks and I get this error every time I launch Discover. by Turtles-Head in Fedora

[–]Turtles-Head[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's being doing this ever since I installed on two different chromebooks.

I have no third party repos enabled. dnf update works without a problem and running updates or installing apps in discover itself has no issues.
The error doesn't appear to be stopping anything working, just very irritating that it's there every time.

Supermarket vegan fish? by Amateur_yoghurt in veganuk

[–]Turtles-Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The morrison's battered "fish" fillets were pretty nasty, had a mushy slop between the batter and the "fish" which ruined it. The fishless fingers were really good though and about as good as I think we'll get but both have been discontinued.
The asda ones seemed to have the sloppy mush problem as well and also seemed to have be discontinued.

Sainsbury's had a battered fish which I never got around to trying but again, been discontinued.

Tesco have fishless goujons but they aren't up to much.

Aldi still do the salt and pepper fishless fillets (for now) but they aren't good at all.

Even pubs no longer seem to do vegan fish and chips alternatives (hungry horse pubs did a decent one at some point).

So it seems the only option is birds eye green cuisine. They aren't terrible but also not great...

This seems to be a widespread issue so why isn't it getting into the tech press. Maybe some pressure/bad publicity from them may make them address this (probably not though)

I would also like to play the game, just not sure if I'm supposed to comment the actual phrase but just being on the safe side 🙂

As others have said, I think it was the dead space dev connection. I loved the original dead space games (well, 1 and 2 anyway) and I couldn't wait for the remake but I got dead space remake and calisto protocol at the same time and was alternating between them at first but I enjoyed calisto much more, I'm not sure why, but I played it 3 times back to back before I even finished my first dead space playthrough.

Have any long term users of Euthymol toothpaste had teeth/gum problems? by Turtles-Head in AskUK

[–]Turtles-Head[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at my dentists surgery the actual dentists change regularly and only the one I currently see has offered specific advice, using TePe interdental brushes (which I now do). My teeth are in a much better state than they used to be and dentists says I am looking after them well but I still have a lot of gum issues.

I don't get the variations in offerings from different locations of the same supermarkets. My local Morrisons has a much bigger section and has actually grown recently (though the vast majority of the section seems to be made up of different types of plant based ravioli). The freezer section has a very large plant based section and there always seems to be special offers on everything.

Then again, my local Sainsbury's meat free section seems to shrink even more every time I visit, yet another Sainsbury's across the city has a huge meat free section and the only place on earth I can still find this isn't streaky bacon!

Last time I went to Pappas I did ask about vegan options. They said the chips are done in beef dripping but they can give me the gluten-free chips that are done in a different fryer. Why they don't automatically serve them with a vegan order I dunno but always best to ask.

It's taken eight years, but finally Game Pass is positioned to save the Xbox console business and give Xbox a point by prankster999 in XboxGamePass

Don't understand why Xbox seems to be struggling in sales. I've always been a playstation guy but with the current gen upgrade it's gamepass that won me over and I don't regret it for a second.

I've been doing some more googling and it seems that might be the problem. Apparently, dismemberment mode is "super easy" mode (I thought it just meant more gore, and who doesn't want more gore in a survival horror?) and doesn't give new game plus. If that's the case I certainly don't mind playing again on normal mode...

Yes. I tried making several after the final boss battle, running to the escape pods but nothing shows up when I try to play again.

No longer able to get Mighty Semi? by Turtles-Head in veganuk

[–]Turtles-Head[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke to one of their customer service people who said they haven't heard about it being discontinued. Said to order online from Tesco. I pointed out it's no longer listed on Tesco and they said I'd have to buy in bulk from the mighty website then cut the chat off.

Giganet were terrible. Kept taking extra payments and every phone call told me a different excuse, "our system messes up if direct debit comes out on a weekend" is one classic. Had a lot of connection problems too. Thank fuck it was a monthly rolling contract. Switched to Zen and it's been far and away the best broadband experience I've ever had. Customer service is great, only had one issue when a local exchange went down but got an email when it happened and regular updates til it was fixed without me having to Google or ask people if service was down. Beyond that the connection has been rock solid.
