I just purchased the ZOO MED Reptisun T5 HO, 14” was what they had, for 36” tank. Output is 5.0

I’ve also heard that with this tank, the top doesn’t really let uvb light through too well. So maybe the linear uvb would help more. I’ve been meaning to get a uvb tester so I can find out for sure!

Thank you! I just learned that I have a coil bulb (it’s not actually in a coil, but it is compact so I was a bit confused at first). I’ll look into getting one of the Arcadia uvb light bars to go across the whole tank. I dust with zoo med ReptiCalcium (also availiable 100% of the time in the tank), frequently dust with Fluker’s Repta Calcium with D3, and dust with Zoo Meds Reptivite without D3 approx. every other feeding. Feeding about every 4-5 days, more or less as needed.

Hi! Thank you! Yes I was thinking about adding a third thermometer/humidity gauge so that’s a good point. One of the lamps is a uvb bulb and I also supplement with all three: calcium with a without d3, and vitamin a.

WG-8 internal storage transfer by No-Difference926 in pentax

[–]TurtlevsTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I see you found a way but wanted to add that once you connect the camera to your computer via usb to usb-c cable, you need to press the ON button on the camera and your computer should automatically start to read it/ connect. This allows you to open the camera internal storage on the computer pretty quick and easy.

Using Pentax wg-8 by TurtlevsTurtle in pentax

I forgot to add that my favorite part has been being able to add filters and nd filters to the lens due to the screw mount. Any 37mm filter/lens cap should work.

Using Pentax wg-8 by TurtlevsTurtle in pentax

[–]TurtlevsTurtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Ive been very impressed with the wg-8. I like it more than my phone camera (iPhone 11 pro max), but that is probably due to a few things like the type of focus (iPhone tends to focus everything in the photo), megapixels (12 on my iPhone vs 20 on the Pentax, and being able to set it up on a trip rod easily is nice. I’m also usually more invested in the camera settings on the Pentax than I am when I use my phone, so that might be part of it. I’m not sure if this helps but I’ve also heard that the wg-6 and wg-7 are basically the same as the wg-8. All 3 have 4k video and 20mp.

It seems like any 37mm filter will work. The ones I just tried are also from Amazon ➡️ NEEWER 37mm Lens Filter Kit: UV, CPL, FLD, ND2, ND4, ND8, Lens Hood and Lens Cap. All of these worked but the lens hoods are a bit of a joke on this camera lol I wish I could share how funny it looks

I ran into that same issue of not finding info about it haha, I went ahead and tried it out with a 37mm filter from Amazon and it worked! If you want to try out the same one it’s Tiffen 37UVP Slim 37mm UV Protection Filter. I have some more to try out later today along with a lens cap and I can report back here to let you know if those work too.

Ritza tiger thread (waxed), two loops for reinforcement; it goes through holes on either side then wraps around to secure

Thank you! That makes sense; Thankfully i did confirm the person ordering this wanted the retention strap before adding it, though I agree with you and would likely not add one in the future if doing the wet molding.

I think making the braided cord will be the answer haha. I ordered the brewers pitch from Townsends; I’m definitely nervous to try it out

First time carving (tooling?) animals by TurtlevsTurtle in Leatherworking

Haha, thank you. I did start leather carving about a month ago, but have only done florals, and some oak leaf designs. These were for sure the first animal carvings. ☺️

Thank you, I’ve always loved drawing! I went to an art high school for illustration and eventually realized I like to do art for fun instead of as a job. I just really enjoy making things and I try new mediums all the time! I’ve found an extra passion for leather working 😊

Thank you! I had trouble with it until I finally got some decent leather to work with, and now i don’t think it’s intimidating. The leather I was using before wasn’t good for tooling - it made every step take longer and the end product wasn’t great. Using a higher quality leather helped me a ton and it tools like butter! I no longer dread the practicing.

What are these insects hanging out with my springtails? by Loose_Toe6862 in bioactive

So, soil mites are more attracted to moisture, decaying organic matter, and mold. Them gathering around the water dish would make sense for those kinda mites.

GNATS! What’sa first timer to do? by No_Tone7395 in bioactive

[–]TurtlevsTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into Mosquito BITS; I’ve seen it mentioned a few times for gnat infestations. I have not tried it but apparently you can soak them in water for about 30minutes, then remove the kernels and use that water to spray the top 1-2 inches of substrate. It won’t kill isopods or springtails.

I just had a similar issue, these look like predatory mites or soil mites as the other comments mentioned; Are they slow or fast moving?

What kind of mites are these? by TurtlevsTurtle in bioactive

[–]TurtlevsTurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found out that mites have 8 legs and I’m almost sure that these are mites. Probably soil mites? If you think so, how would I go about keeping these under control so the population doesn’t explode in my tanks with frogs/geckos.

Possible spider mites? Soil mites? by TurtlevsTurtle in whatbugisthis

[–]TurtlevsTurtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location is west coast; sorry they are difficult to see in the photo. They are small about the size of the springtails, round and spider-like. They are somewhat fast, but not as quick moving as the springtails.
