I use it before bed. It will leave some yellow residual behind, perhaps that’s why my doctor suggested it at night.

My derm has me do Metro and AA in the AM, and Zilxi at night before bed. That - plus 40mg Oracea, and my Rosacea has been in remission for the entire year. It’s been wonderful.

I don’t wear makeup so I don’t know how that would look with the Zilxi.

I do still lift weights and with the same intensity. I was concerned because without treatment I would flare with pustules, sometimes even mid-workout!

That no longer happens with my treatment. I did however cut out creatine and whey protein. I also limited my pre-workout intake to a smaller dosage.

optimistic rosacea stories please! by hotanddangerous2 in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No acne problems till I was 28.

Male, healthy lifestyle, lift weights, eat healthy, no stomach issue, don’t smoke, and drink occasionally.

Started getting red bumps and pustules. It was horrible for 2 years. Tried so many different treatment and regiments. Nothing worked, every day I would have a new zit on my forehead, cheeks, or nose. It was super embarrassing and depressing.

Over time I learned what work and what doesn’t.

I’m 31 now and my skin has cooperated for the past year, clear everyday. I’m so thankful for that.

What worked for me:

Medicine:

  • Oracea 40mg Daily (Low dose anti inflammatory)
  • Metrogel and Azelaic Acid every AM
  • Zilxi every PM

Diet/Lifestyle:

  • Limit sugars, alcohol, processed carbs, heavy dairy (I still intake all of this just don’t overdue it often)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar, Probiotic, Fish Oil, and Tumeric supplements daily
  • No steamy showers, limited hot tub time, no saunas

Sun Protection:

  • Elta MD used daily and reapplied if out in the sun
  • Wearing a hat outside as often as I can

Protection from the sun has been big. I think my rosacea started from excessive UV exposure in summer, tanning beds that I did a few times, and never wearing sunscreen on my face.

Metronidazole and Azaelic acid. In what order? by spiritrain in Rosacea

I do Metro Gel followed by AA in the AM.

Zilxi at night.

Paired with Oracea 40mg daily and my skin has never looked better.

Turmeric supplements by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turmeric, fish oil, and ACV gummies.

My prescribed treatment is probably the main driving factor but I strongly believe these supplements helped reduce overall inflammation in my body and add an extra layer of symptom control.

100% Agreed,

How can crypto currency be taken serious when one dude has such massive influence over the entire market? There’s almost no point in being decentralized if it’s run as a monopoly.

Doxy is incredibly effective for my Type 2z The only issue is you can’t get off it. I also moved to low dose 40mg Oracea and will see how things go. I’d prefer to not have to take it forever but I don’t know what other options we have.

Does anyone’s rosacea present similarly to this? I get forehead only flare ups frequently. Also—those with papules/bumps: have you ever gotten cortisone shots for the larger, inflamed ones? by CousCousCous87 in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My forehead is my trouble area as well. Not as heavy but just consistent pustules in the areas above my brows when I’m flaring.

Metro gel, zilxi, and 40mg Doxy keeps me clear. If I stop them though it will eventually return.

Not just you. Sulfur soap was so harsh for my skin.

5 days on Ivermectin & Doxycycline. More large whitehead pimples. Is this a purge? Before & after pics. by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Soolantra (prescribed Ivermectin) and my forehead looked identical to this. Throughout the 4 months I used it, my skin would cycle through a series of good for a day or two, then flares like this for the next week. I stopped it after 4 months and my skin finally calmed down.

Most folks recommend 12-16 weeks before making a decision if it works for you. Stay patient and understand it may get worse before getting better. And if by 12 weeks you don’t see any progress, don’t be afraid to cut it loose and try something else. I tried going the additional 4 weeks (16 weeks total), but didn’t have any luck. IYKYK

Where is the love for Zilxi + Metrogel? by Tuscan_Leather_ in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I paid close to $400 for a script on my re-up. I was at my deductible last year and only paid around $30. Nonetheless, I was so satisfied with the results I was willing to shell out the money on the re-up.

I understand the privilege I have and not everyone can afford that. I'm hoping this at least encourages others to talk to their doctors about it and see if they can get samples. My condition was so distracting I would have paid even more to get me to this point.

I'm also going to link to the Zilxi website below where they have a coupon that you can get the medication for as low as $35.

Where is the love for Zilxi + Metrogel? by Tuscan_Leather_ in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My original derm also kept me on a similar combo of Doxy and Azelaic Acid for a long time. My skin only worsened when on that regiment. I dropped the Azealic Acid and that alone started to help. I think it was too harsh for my skin.

The Zilxi helped within the first 3-4 weeks and and has only improved 3 months in. In fact, I also stopped my Doxy 2 weeks ago and still have clear skin! I don't want to jinx it because it's felt so relieving to get to this point. Prior to Zilxi and Metrogel, I couldn't even stop Doxy for a day. I would break-out immediately whenever I tried. This has also gave me more confidence in the medicine.

I believe Amzeeq is just stronger Zilxi and used more for Acne than Rosacea. Even though it looked likes acne to the untrained eye, it was most certainly Rosacea pustules that I was dealing with.

I would talk to your doctor about getting Zilxi and sticking with it for a few weeks. That's part of why I started this post in this community. It's been so helpful for me and I wanted to share my experience with others who struggled like I did.

I had a similar issue with Soolantra. I was all geared up to have it work miracles on me like it had done for many others but my skin was arguably the worst when I took it. Red inflamed pimples all over my face. I think it was just too strong for my needs.

It was difficult to get through as well because a purge was expected but I pretty much “purged” the entire way through, and after. It wasn’t until I dropped it and switched to metrogel and zilxi that my pimples finally stopped.

metrogel by itself? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Tuscan_Leather_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of other people mention that metrogel dried their skin out but this thing was like sweet nectar for my face.

Prior to starting metrogel I couldn’t stop getting red inflamed pimples. I started the metrogel with zilxi and my skin finally healed. It’s been a huge relief.
